The pitch of a propeller tells you the distance it travels in one revolution . So over say 1 metre metric or even 1 yard imperial measurement you can calculate how many times it has turned. The greater the pitch the more distance in one revolution , it's the same as full size boat propellers , both standard and race props . If you ask a person who races big boats it may help. But not forgetting your boat is a scaled version of a full sized boat and so to is the speed. Hope that helps Cheers

mono hulls need lower pitches. High pitch props are for flat bottom boats like outriggers and hydroplanes. generally 1.6 is as high as you go with a mono. 1.4 being best. Higher pitches lift the transom and will cause a mono to become unstable.

Thanks for the great video and for sharing your knowledge. First time on your channel, but I'll be back. As an aside, I must say that Impulse looks awesome with some of the graphics removed. So much cleaner!

A good break down of pitch is to compare over a distance. Say we are talking about going 10 inches. A 1.4 pitch will take 10/1.4 = 7.14 rotations to go 10 inches. On a higher pitch like a 1.9, 10/1.9=5.26 rotations to go 10 inches. So in theory it takes less rpms to go the same distance thus greater top speed if your motor reaches peak rpm with both props. To relate this back to your motor you have to consider its rpm/v rating. Lower rating will have more torque and be able to turn a higher pitch versus a higher rating which wont be able to get to full rpm potentially. at some point too much pitch slows the motor rpm peak down so you will start to go slower, create more motor, esc, battery, and wire heat.

pitch also lifts a boat. so you cant just slap any pitch on any hull. mono hulls want low pitch. hydros want higher pitches.

What is the stock prop specs for the impulse 32? I know it’s the same prop that comes with the Blackjack 42. I have looked all over and have been unable to find the info.

Ciao amico ! Come stai ? Senti, un bel video! Scusami, dove compri questi elica?

As a recent graduate of naval engineering, when he said there’s no math involved in propeller design… I visibly cringed 😂 great video tho very cool stuff

As keeping the video basic to a lot of new people coming in to the Hobby technically there is a math equation to propellers and their design. This equation can be factored on your variables of the boat. Rpm, volts , torque, hull type, efficiency percentages and weight. Diameter, and pitch and slip. Now there’s probably way more in equations to factor propellers but keeping the video of information for the new people coming into the Hobby and learning. Graduating naval engineering congrats on that.

@@mad_lizard you're right, lot of factors take place in prop/hull design, its a fun field. by the way i was of course joking when i said I cringed, I thought this was a great informative video!

In rough water with heavy chop, boats can rarely use more than half throttle. In those cases, would we be looking to go down in diameter or pitch as our first move? Thanks for the informative video!
