@@alphafitter4699 Actually he does need this kind of setup because for those of us that live on long gravel roads we know that hooking up the chain with the tires or the railroad tie behind the truck once a month helps maintain the road and is a cost saving on tires and vehical wear and tear! Typically we will pull it behind the vehicle once a month and leave it at the end of the driveway, go to town run our errands and hook it back up on our way home this type of setup grades the roads Gently and will fill in any ruts or depressions that the road may encounter with regular use.

Beautiful setup. I built a much smaller off grid setup during the same time for my family. I'm older than you and I need to stay in the city to work so don't really want a farm. You should be proud because it's a huge amount of work. I got very little help from my family and in my late 50's it's harder on me. I have kids from their mid 20's down to a newborn. You'll enjoy watching your family grow with nature and eating without poisons in their food. Not many people will ever know this feeling or the feeling of seeing what you built with your own hands. I hope we don't need our places for the upcoming war. But if we do know that you helped a modest man as myself prepare for what's to come and, at least feel like I have a fighting chance to survive. And if there is no war I have a nice little cabin in the woods, away from people, on a river, surrounded by wildlife, where I can enjoy my weekends, even if the power goes off.

A birch forest cultivated for firewood is a good idea: 1. Birch grows quickly 2. If necessary, it burns even when wet 3. After cutting down a tree, it grows from the root into several shoots, which also grow quickly. They can be cut to a thickness of about 10-12 cm, which will make the work easier and after cutting into blocks, there is no need to split them. Good luck!

Congradulations! Just don't forget about redundancies. There is always a 'what if' that pops into my head. This year I'm living a 'what if'. It rained 2x a week for 9 years, so much water that even small trees were falling down. This year we haven't had a 1/10" of rain in 6 mpnths and I have to water the new parts of lawn in November where the trees used to be in an attempt to grow grass to keep down the erosion. Just because theire is no rain doesn't mean it's sunny. A few times lately we had 2 weeks of cloudy with no rain weather. No sun, no solar and no questionable water to treat which leaves a 3 mile ride to the Delaware river or a creek and nobody know what is dumped or dead upsteam.

Nate: remember to bring in the cats come winter time. Otherwise they will freeze to death. As to chickens: consider getting Rhode Island Reds since they are going to be free ranged. These roosters are bad a$$ protectors of their hens. They do lay eggs & can be meat for the table. If you have an enclosed protective area for the chickens, get Silver Wyandottes as they will continue to lay eggs in the winter, are broody (good moms), and will be great meat birds. They are also gentle chickens so the kids can pick them up without getting pecked to bits.

Probably no-one reads comments but: - Keep an eye if there are spring floods when the snow melts and where the water flows. Fields might need trenches. - Check the shape of roots of different trees. Some (like spruce vs. pines) are more prone to wind falls in storms. There are differences between varieties i.e. silver birch has deeper roots than sand birch. Deeper roots the better. - Fences need to be at least 2m high to prevent deer, and I’m not sure if they are high enough even then. - Moose are formidable. They can chase off bears.

We have voles and ground squirrels in north Idaho. We also have two mouser cats that can’t keep up with the garden area which is a little bigger than your area, I think. Anyway, these voles are awful! They breed like crazy and have tunnels all under the garden area from the fruit trees to the garden beds. They’ve killed one fruit tree, one grape vine, and ate carrots, potatoes, beans, peas. Next year we’re raising the beds and putting hardware cloth on the bottom. We’ve got a 24x27’ greenhouse with polycarbonate panels (metal frame) with nine 2x10’ beds. Those have hardware cloth. I wish we would have known about the voles when building our garden four years ago. I’m not planting in the ground until this hardware cloth goes in. I hope your cats can keep up with it. Good luck Nate. Love your videos!!
