Due to copyright issues, some parts of the Dances with Wolves section had to be removed at 1:35. Nothing too important but we'll list the removed facts here: - Kevin Costner starred in, directed and produced the film - It was difficult finding someone to finance the film and it exceeded its $15 million budget after which Costner had to spend $3 million from his own pocket to keep production going - A reason for going over budget was because of its scale. It took nearly 3 weeks to shoot the buffalo hunt scene in which there were 3,500 bison, 20 wranglers, 24 bareback Native American stunt riders and 150 extras. A link to this scene has been added to the description.

It's really incredible just how much happens every year when you really break it down. We're just living our lives one day at a time, and we often have boring days. Yet, relevant events are happening on a literal daily basis. It's wild to catalog these things.

Goodfellas was not short by any means, and I would say has left a much larger cultural imprint than Dances With Wolves.

This is great. We need more video series like this. Exploring film history is so fascinating, because it informs me so much and connects me to the culture and history around me. I actually have wanted to do my own series of exploring movies of the 80's. I just haven't gotten the writing and best feel for it yet. I forgot how many classics were released in 1990 alone! Dances with Wolves is one of my favorites. It's in my top 3. I normally don't care for the western genre, but DWW is so personal and the acting and story is so great. It deserved the awards it got. And kudos to Costner for it being his first time directing! I believe he's currently directing another western movie at this time.

It's mind blowing to think how far ago 1990 was, and how many iconic movies were released back then. Makes me wonder what are the movies/tv-streaming series people will be talking about 30 years from now? And what will be hold as a classic.

Cool video!! A lot of coming-of-age teen comedies, were made before 1990, and after; and a lot of them are classics!! However; the first ever teen comedy with an all Black cast, was released in 1990! It also spawned 3 sequils & a recent reboot!! That movie is House Party!! How did that not make this list?? 🤔

The year I was born and it's awesome that Goodfellas, one of my top 20 movies and my #2 of the decade behind Pulp Fiction, came out that year. Although, I still technically wasn't born yet as it came out in September and I was born on November. I was only a fetus.

You know that whole ‘we’re an American band’ saying? Goodfellas is an American movie. To me it defines the American experience. I’m not Italian or have any crime ties at all. I just think it encompasses the American dream so well.

Good God what happen to Hollywood? I'm sure there's 20 more comments just like this one but one single year gave us that many iconic, incredible films. Now we're lucky to get one every five years. I generally hate it when anyone says "things used to be better" but in this case I can't see how you don't say that. The best films were also one offs, which is far different from what we get now with the best films like Joker and Top Gun being sequels or in the case of Joker continuations of existing IPs that draw heavy "inspiration" from older movies. If I had to guess why the precipitous drop in quality I'd guess when the films of 1990 were being made the primary thought was "I want to make the most entertaining, best piece of art I can make", while when films get made now the primary thought is "how can I make a clear politcal statement while pissing off all the people I think are evil".

I personally thought Sophia did great in the movie. I preferred her over Winona Ryder any day she looked part. She played the part well, your opinion is your opinion. You don’t speak for everybody. She did perfect in that movie. It sounds like you’re just going along with a crowd. What about her performance was bad? I can bet you probably never even seen Godfather three and you’re just going off what you heard how much do you want to bet she was beautiful in that part
