A Year with Cancer: Diagnosed with a Rare Cancer at 21, What I've Learned & Where I'm Heading

Today's video is a very special video. On this day January 26th, last year I was diagnosed with a rare cancer at the age of 21 and was forever changed. Uterine Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma. Today marks a year and since diagnosis I have been through multiple surgeries, fertility treatments, multiple forms of chemotherapy and pelvic radiation. I am lucky to say that my prognosis is positive and that I will be okay. This video I reflect on my journey and what I have learned from being diagnosed with cancer at such a young age. How this experience has changed my view on life, how it has influenced the person I am growing into be and my goals for the future. I am so excited for what is to come in the near future and I hope you will continue to follow along on my journey as I start medical school and continue to be an advocate for myself and other patients in hopes to create positive change in our healthcare system. I am a cancer survivor, hopefully 4 years clean next month, and although I am more than twice your age, I learned from your words and am reminded of how I felt back in 2018, when I went through treatment. That is a great way to look at it. I do believe it was both the worst and the hardest but what I did with the experience and chose how to cope with it made me into a stronger and better version of myself. Definitely very traumatic and a lot of pain to process still but I’m happy with who I’m becoming to be❤️ thank you for your kind comment🥰

Becky. I have watched your cancel struggle from day one. I too have had a few surgeries an hole in my heart repaired. I’ve had a kidney transplant thanks to my 32 year daughter who graciously gave me a kidney which keeps me going. An iliostomy emergency operation because I had mega colon so I had no choice. All my stuff doesn’t seem like anything when I watch your videos. Yes going through all these procedures and meeting so many wonderful people who have touched our hearts immensely. Please know that you life has made a difference. I like you no longer sweat the small stuff we are originally from nfld and we would word it as we have bigger fish to fry lol

You are amazing I can relate because I’ve been there I have colon cancer and had surgery and chemo and immunotherapy and right now I am in remission but every 3 months I go for a pet scan and always worry waiting for the results it’s always on your mind any little ache or pain you think it must be my cancer at least I’m older (73) but you are still so young but with your attitude I’m sure your going to make it.
