This type of presentation almost seems better than a scientific paper. Everything is described perfectly in great detail very simply and efficiently. Is this the way of publishing scientific findings of the future? Maybe something like this accompanied by the paper itself?

Great observation Jeb! Yes, I think that a video could make a scientific paper easier to understand. A video is similar in function to an oral presentation at a scientific conference and has the benefit of being available to more people. I hope to try to make a few of these type of videos in the future of previously written papers, but likely won't have any video clips - only still photos to demonstrate the concepts.

Brilliant idea, Dr. Kratky! Agreed that the 1/8" shur tape or similar will fail over time, though in my experience, the reason for failure has more to do with inconsistent use. By that I mean I neglect to fill the reservoir, which means the spongy material is not exposed to water anymore and thus dries and deforms. I have a ton of the 1/8" material left but am tempted to try the 1/4" neoprene. Has the thicker neoprene proven more failsafe for you? Thanks!

Yes, the neoprene foam has definitely been more durable.

You mentioned in the original video that this *could* be used for animal watering systems. What is the new material used as the "stopper", and does it present any problems for health of pets? I'm looking to build a off-grid watering system that doesn't involve lifting & tipping gravity feed bowls which weigh 16# or 24# (2 or 3 gallon), but rather an slightly elevated reservoir to a suitable large bowl on the floor. Thanks a lot for any advice.

Sponge neoprene stripping with adhesive by Cleverbrand Inc (CECOMINOD 054308) was purchased from Amazon. I don't have the MSDS on the material and suggest you contact this company for animal safety. You will need to study the MSDS for both the material and the adhesive.
