In California they have something like this. Instead of barriers, it moves homeless encampments from one side of the street to the other, so that they can decontaminate alternate sides of the street regularly. Works pretty good. You still have to step around human waste and needles and stuff, but, it's not as bad as it used to be.

Sounds harsh, i know, but, that is better than, say, a virus doing it. Faster yes, but, then, the population would be too aware. If it's done like this, the majority of people who don't personally encounter it, will be blissfully unaware. Yeah, the driving "team" has to pass two years of training, and grow a couple more sets of eyeballs , for each point of the compass, they're still working on the surveillance cams under the bus , to observe the vehicles going under for wrongdoing or drinking or drugs WHILE DRIVING!!( wait, do the lines when we go under this bridge!) Then there's the warning systems for going over the less standardized vehicles , especially if there's more than one bunched up under there! And the people who are compelled to tying large items on top of their vehicle!!

"Tidal lane" was first used in Zhejiang Province to ease the traffic in city center of Hangzhou. There're lanes that allows different traffic flow in certain amount of time (i.e westbound in morning, eastbound in afternoon; straight in rush hour, left turn in offpeak; etc). In some more "primitive" provinces like Shandong and Hubei, people are still new to this concept and those barriers and the truck are needed when the tidal lane reverses the traffic direction completely. better than the proposed smart motorway in the UK

They use a zipper truck on the Golden Gate Bridge. This is different because it is a bus, but I don't see how that is an advantage.
