@@johnclark284 Sadly the Pentagon is currently obsessed with stealth strike aircraft. The A-10 is one of THE BEST CAS aircraft ever invented. From loiter time, to payload, to survivability, to being able to adapt to the enemy on the ground. There's just nothing better. It's only weakness is it can't also take out most enemy aircraft, which I wouldn't consider a weakness. The Pentagon would rather have an all around plane, though. A specialist of none approach leaves these beautiful things mothballed. :(
@jonathanjuwainat55355 жыл бұрын
Kosh800 lmao against anything With AA guns it would shot down it has horrible defenses and no stealth it would be shot down easily in a war with practically any AirForce. Only thing it’s good at is killing dumbass taliban
@kenreckless98455 жыл бұрын
@@jonathanjuwainat5535 Interesting perspective. I guess titanium armour and multiple redundant systems don't count... This thing was designed to go straight up the guts and take on the Soviet Army in the most hostile air environment imaginable. The A10 is an attack aircraft, hence the A, and it's not supposed to take on an air threat. It is designed to go in low and lay down the hammer of wrath upon enemy ground forces. Using this against the Taliban is actually overkill, but hey, if you are fighting fair you are doing it wrong.
@haroldbenton9795 жыл бұрын
@@jonathanjuwainat5535 my brother retired from the USAF as a Master Sargent. He worked on the F16 F15E F15C A10 and F4G in his career. The plane that always came back from the battlefield with the most damage regardless of what was removed from them was the Warthog. In Desert Storm they lost 2 F16's when a 23mm cannon round took out the a flight control and the backup for that control on both of them. He had multiple A10's come home with 1 of their engines shot out holes blown in the wings and tails shot full of holes. The F15's came back with some damage but nothing compared to the Warthogs. Why even if they lose their hydraulic systems they have a backup cable and crank system that they cans still fly on.

This wasn’t what it could carry at one time but showed its capabilities. I never actually saw one fly in my Air Force days but I was so impressed by that picture that it became my favorite plane. This is saying a lot from a guy who stood for an hour at Bitburg Air Base and watched F-15’s do touch and go’s when they were first deployed. Mavericks ATGMs but it doesn't fuckin matter cuz from the perspective of the man on the ground it could have been called "PINK TEDDY BEAR ATGM" ! It got the fuckin job done and saved his unit from having to engage with a bunch of t-64/t-72s and BMPs. It was likely mostly BMPs if they were doing gun runs because the gun isn't completely effective against T-72s but it will still fuck them up at certain AoA. The BMP still has a very good 73mm HE gun and/or 20mm auto cannon depending on the model. Thank you for sharing the story and serving in Desert Storm. Was it at night? Either way it would be one hell of a show!

The best ground support aircraft we have in our arsenal, and our goofy ass government wants to do away with it. The warthog is a flying tank and armed to the teeth, and ask any infantry personel if they think we should do away with it , and they will say hell no.

I used to be an air traffic controller at Ft. Stewart, GA in the early 1980's when the Warthog was fairly new and was always impressed with the way that airplane would make a turn in any direction. It seems that pilots who fly it can only make radical hairpin turns as if they were in an air show. Once there was one A-10 that had an accidental discharge of it's GAU-8 Avenger at the end of the runway where they clear their guns before taxiing in. Brrrt!

The big brass bean counters, don't realize the incredible moral value of this asset that it brings to the ground fighters, as well as the "in their face shit scare" factor, it puts into the enemy, It's a force multiplier. Any notion of cancelling the A-10 in a theater of a, down and dirty war. is a grave mistake. Just the sound it makes when it engages the enemy, is a propaganda bonanza. When " boots on the ground" become unnecessary in future conflicts, then the A-10 can retire. In the mean time, these boys are aerial infantry men, that bring down Hells Bells to the enemy from the Heavens above.

In Desert Storm, many if the pilots and Units with the most kills, and deployed first, were of Vietnam war pilots, F-4 for instance, who did have live fire experience vs ground, and air, targets. A lot of young A-10 pilots cut their.teeth as Wingman to those older guys, Majors and Colonels. Part of USAF HISTORY. A-10 was a Vietnam War-inspired plane, designed to kill vehicles on Ho Chi Minh Trail. Growing through its European WW III Cold War theoretical Adolescence, it came into Adulthood, practical use, in First Desert Storm.

Scariest site to see at night flying over a neighborhood with a search light on. Saw one over West Bloomfield Michigan. I was driving from Milford through Commerce Township, kept seeing a bright light in the distance. I knew it was an aircraft. As I got to West Bloomfield I saw it circle a few times then fly over head. Mind you it was 3am. I saw the outline as it flew overhead. It was very low, and you cant hear them till they are almost overhead. (This was 18 years ago) Saw one not too long ago fly over my house(June 2023), execute a couple banking turns, then go back the way it came. It started off going north, then went back south. I live in South Georgia now. These things are awesome. Hands down my favorite aircraft. Knew exactly what it was when it came into view.

The Russian leadership is too proud, hence why they do not trust individuals to make decisions, on-the-fly. Russia condemned all those who died, taking orders, just as the US is suffering, under poor-leadership. Russian conscripts fight because they have no choice, while we, in the US, fight because we are blinded also by pride.

I live next to an A10 squadron. One day I was driving past the civilian side of the airport, and heard an A10 fly by. Didn't sound like a takeoff. So I look out the window and the damn warthog driver is doing a practice strafing run over the general aviation tie downs. I look at the road for a sec, then look back at the plane and the damn thing had done a 180 turn and was coming back down from the direction he'd pulled up! Mind. Blown.
