I know these flights to Bournemouth were happening regularly during covid, carrying PPE stuff etc. What is the purpose of them now? Simply cargo?

Yes during covid they were carrying PPE! Now it’s just doing cargo runs to China.

Why is the aircraft pulled onto the runway & then started?

The reason is that there is works being done either side of the taxi way and the A340s engines over hang! They don’t won’t any object digested into the engines
