Actually they do not do the lining up. After crabbing, the momentum and weight of the aircraft when it touches the ground automatically straightens the plane.

Wow, A380 converted to F-35 for a vertical landing, He was simulating a normal landing with the flaps down while using the headwind as if the forward speed, so the runway direction no longer relevant. So to him the only difference is zero linear speed. Super pilot he did a miracle 👍.

I believe it is a moveable landing gear. It allows the aircraft to point into the wind but land on the runway with no problem. I was aware of this in my flight training days. It was my understanding that this was limited in 1966-68 to Boeing B-52's and 747's. I didn't know about foreign aircraft like the Airbus.
