As a local resident (Wootton) I thank you so much for making and showing this video. I know it is a very difficult situation for all involved but being kept up to date is incredibly helpful. Given the thousands of people being affected by this road closure, it's a shame that some authority (Highways/local council?) couldn't spare a few minutes to be so helpful. Thanks again. 👍

Pumping station was an afterthought after the a421 was open that should never of been a under pass. They should of linked 1/4 mile of pipe together and pumped that water into the lake 20m below the road level that was not full itself.

This road being closed made my journey from oxfordshire to cambridge significantly more difficult. I wonder how much they saved by having the road dipping down in an area where there were clearly issues with flooding, rather than keeping the road up and raising the roundabout and bridges over it. Flooding is going to become more and more of an issue with the uk due to a number of factors.

FFS its a brand new road. Did the builders take all this on board when it was designed and built.

This is a national east west road link and it's been flooded for days. It might cost millions but a complete rethink of this junction needs to happen to solve this problem.once and for all because with warmer climes and greater rainfall this WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.

Sums up the state of country's governance, yet another public service failure. 9 days !!! And tonight the water levels will rise I suspect, unless the back feeding of water through the outlet has been stopped (that's a guess of course but for days the levels did not seem to change much). After the inevitable inquiry committees and blame buck passing, big money will need to be spent to sort this out once and for all. I used to travel this way and I remember that this was always prone to flooding. Big design fail. In-fill and put the minor road (in comparison) on a bridge over. Or further installs of bigger emergency pumps ready. Smells of a "Treasury Red Pen" job this, disgraceful.

Still dealing with that boataway are they?

When you think about it the pumping station should have been installed at a higher level then it wouldn't get flooded

Where is the water being pumped to?
@masekwm2 ай бұрын
I believe it is to a brook behind the road, however, not sure how that can be the case due to pollutants which must exist now in the water - it has a brown scum on the top of it.

I suppose if the pumping station is flooded they could stand around think what to do and sing underneath the spreading chest nut tree!

Is the flooding due to a river bursting it's banks or just rainwater build-up?
@masekwm2 ай бұрын
It was caused by run off from local roads and fields, never seen anything like this here last winter.

We had a massive hailstorm and rainfall last weekend. Did a lot of damage to buildings and roads. Something like “3 months rain in 2 days” levels of storm and the rain’s slowed down but not really stopped.

@@MrRobertoMoir Approaching the 421 on Saturday 21st, it was difficult to see the road due to rain & hail, the weather was crazy that weekend.

‘The pump don’t work ‘cause the vandals took the handle’ - the pump that’s now under water clearly inadequate to handle the volume of water - perhaps the highways department failed to maintain it . . . ?
