I enjoyed that, even passed through my village. Many thanks to you.

Watling Street crosses the Fosse Way at 4:25 This is the Roman Station “Venonai” (High Cross) which is the Roman Centre of Britain. There is an old monument here which marks this historic point.

Did you know right at the start of the A5 in Marble Arch is the first point it crosses any railway. The instant you turn left onto this road, you pass over the Central line of the London Underground

The A5 between London and west of Telford runs along an old Roman road (known as Watling Street) and the A5183 follows that same route; it was the A5 until the M1 was built and still forms the zone boundary between zones 4 and 5. Disappointing that you took the 'quick route' here. Understandable with roads like the A6 (large chunks of which are missing as a result of rerouting) but that's not the case here where the old road is still quite passable in a car.

In real time how long would it take to travel along the A5 from end to end, and how many miles is it ?

Nice video. I had no idea some of the A5 was single track road.

It isn't - I think he was just cutting through to get back onto the A5 route from the M1.

You should have done the A5183 because that used to be the A5 and still acts as the A5 in terms of road numbering zones

Yes, the old A5 used to go through Dunstable that’s now been re numbered as the a5183 because they built the Dunstable northern bypass

You can pause the video and use the full stop and comma button to advance through the video slowly at junctions

How did you get past Hinckley and Nuneaton so quickly!!! The A5 there is terribly slow and congested.

Wouldn't mind doing this route (in reverse since we're in north Wales) I've had a look at maps, and I don't get where it goes to single lane

Ian Johnson the main road has a break between Elstree and south of Luton, so the single track sections was just getting between the two

You skipped the A5 at Elstree and Radlett for some reason!
@timelapseofukroads49316 жыл бұрын
The Language Hub The A5 no longer goes through there. It’s the A5183 now. The A5 now stops between the M1 at Elstree and the M1 north of Luton, hence the different route between those two points. www.sabre-roads.org.uk/wiki/index.php?title=A5

True I know but it is historically the A5, Watling Street, would have made more sense to follow it through there rather than the strange single-lane country roads. I enjoyed this video though. Many places I'm familiar with.

@@JackBartholomew90 also he went on the M54 as the A5 is not there either

Similar to that is the old A6 which is now the A1081.

Should've continued past Edgware to Radlett and into St Albans on the 5183. Its more or less the old A5. You cheated going on the M1...
