If you see all things he had to do before this scale model could move, it makes you appreciate the time, when this had to be done at the real thing, were it could take hours between starting to fire everything up to the actual point the train could move. And yeah, I love how much passion this man had, or else this thing could never come to completion. Now the result is rewarding.
As I watched this in February, 2021, and enjoyed the result of this man's passion and skill, I can't help but note that 11,000 individuals gave the video a thumbs down. I despair.

Spectacular! Being one myself, I can say with total confidence that no one can obsess over a hobby like a man, and with all respect, old dudes often rule here! Astronomy, wood working, rebuilding cars, trains, steampunk, gaming, audiophiles, model making, computer builds - you name it - there's a group of men out there who know every last detail. They have invested endless hours exploring the most intricate and exotic options. They have spent insane fortunes on the tiniest improvements. They have applied NASA-level engineering to solve irrelevant challenges. Few women do this - its just not in their DNA. The difference in scale is like positioning a sewing machine against a fire-breathing 800hp V8 - the level of dedication is just not even in the same universe. God bless you sir for keeping this spirit alive!

I used to work for Nexus media - we published Model Engineer and Model Engineer Workshop magazines. It was fantastic to see the skill and passion these guys put into their models. Sadly, with engineering practically dead as a career now in the UK, having the skills to build this sort of thing for your hobby is a dying art.
@VijayNinel4 жыл бұрын
Why is engineering dying as a career in the U.K? Home of the industrial revolution.
@Wally-H4 жыл бұрын
@@VijayNinel Because everything can be manufactured cheaply in the Far East. Everything is made in China and Taiwan. Even high quality furniture is now made mostly in Vietnam. Smaller model trains that used to be made in the UK, like the famous Hornby brand, are made in China now.
@igorbogdanoff45174 жыл бұрын
@@Wally-H There are skilled men still engineering in the UK. the design and initial prototyping is nearly always done in the UK. It's just that the tv channels have dumbed down and don't show the real people that form the backbone of the country. Nationalism is rising, as is anti-China sentiment. With it will come a drive to encourage more capable young men to go into machinist trades to supply our own industry. I'm not saying you;re wrong, but I'm saying the inner engineer and problem solver still remains in the blood of the kids, grand kids great grand kids etc of the men who built Great Britain. All that's needed is a spark to awaken that spirit, and the hard times coming will be a stark wake up. good times make weak men, weak men make bad times, bad times make strong men, strong men make good times.

We love steam trains because we turned ordinary materials into magic and had a reasonable idea how it worked. We made these materials come alive, like a dragon, and puff it way up hills as if feeling the strain. And we could see its pistons pushing the wheels like a cyclist. Driven by lowly water and coal and ancient fire. There must be a reason I couldn't stop watching this.
