Absolutely brilliant and thank you for leaving the soundtrack intact. So good that you had no desire to inflict any musical entertainment on us. This is almost a form of meditation and it felt like I was there in the cab. Interesting to note the power rails occasionally swapping from left to right.

Does anyone know what they did to the traction motors to make them quieter and whiny? I much prefer this original sound of the traction motors. I understand they did something similar to the C stock but they were still loud. Anything to do with gearing changes? Why do this?

You mean the class 313-322 and 455-457 and 507/508 trains? The underground stocks (which make a similar sound) sound like they’re angry at the passengers whereas the British rival trains sound like sick elephants

I think this is still the best cab ride of the met available, and quite possibly the only one on the A60 stock, it's also a fast service, which is rare for cabrides on this line. The lack of narration or captions getting in the way makes this a much nicer watching experience and I love the audio.

Nice bit of nostalgia there, especially seeing the NSE-liveried Networker Turbos. I was 15 at the time and just becoming a railway enthusiast, and would travel on those networkers into Marylebone on occasional school day trips.

One of my favourite London Tube Vidz, because in the 1970's I lived in Chiltern Court above Baker Street Sation, and at 5 years old as wee-lad I would go 7 floors up on the roof and peer down into the Well at 00:25. It was like having my own train layout! I miss the sounds on this Vid. Thank you!

Back in the 80's 90's I would sometimes get on a Amersham train from Baker Street. This would then catch up and overtake The Uxbridge train that had already gone. You could then change at Harrow on the Hill and get on the train you had already missed. Can you still do this today?

Why isn't the tunnel lighted? It would seem to the drivers' benefit in the case of an animal (two legged or four) being on the tracks.
@MrTelly82

+Billy Bailey The driver sees much more than the camera. Back in those days, a light bulb would consume a lot of energy and it would burn out quickly. So it would cost too much to have the light turned on at all times.
@naththoau
@naththoau 8 жыл бұрын
+MrTelly82 More likely its the camera with poor dynamic range it is the problem. Or camera didn't have low luma available. Newer camera like these today have much better dynamic range than it was years ago with old film video camera.

In Oslo it’s common to have the tunnels dark, only lit up when there’s reason to (maintentance or similar). Plus our trains have decent headlights… ;) The lights are switced on/off by Traffic Control.

@stumpy2000

Those noises are so nostalgic. All off peak and nearly all peak Amersham's were fast, only stopping at Finchley Rd, Harrow and Moor Park then all stations. Glad i don't have to ride it now they stop all stations, it must take forever.

This is exactly as they were in the 60s and 70s. I went to school in Northwood Hills between 1964 and 1971. The first two years from Harrow on the Hill and the rest from Chesham (don't ask because I don't know). Those were the days of the Chesham shuttle so the morning journey was the first morning through train from Chesham, changing at Moor Park on to thectrain from Watford for the remainder of the journey to Northwood Hills. The afternoon was the reverse except that I changed at Chalfont for the shuttle.

14:30 two of the pway workers have their foot on the Negative rail in the four foot?!! Is this area a compromise voltage area? If not how have they not been electrocuted? Is that section dead?
@NoddyMaccy
@NoddyMaccy 10 жыл бұрын
Being an engineer myself, the only explanation I can offer is the juice rail was dead, perhaps it had a fault and the train was relying on current from the positive rail. There is no foot protection that can save you from 630 volts DC.
@raggir5083
@raggir5083 9 жыл бұрын
The rail inside the four-foot is energised at -210V, and the rail in the six-foot at +420V. The rails are connected by 2:1 resistors arranged so that their common join establishes a 0V reference point, which is normally taken to earth. In some places the four-foot rail is bonded to the running rails so that it is at earth instead. The p-way man may have been taking advantage of this arrangement; or maybe his wellies insulate him against 210V.

They were bare aluminium because the weight of the paint would make the trains use more electricity increasing costs. Plus painting them would've been a big cost too. But when vandals began destroying the trains with graffiti and it couldn't be completely removed, it was decided to have the trains painted.
