AA Guns represent a challenging meta to cover adequately in tactics games. There often appears to be little knowledge of how they worked or what their purpose was. They were highly valued weapons by frontline commanders-especially against enemy soft forces for which they could be very effective but they were often jealously guarded by HQ staff-who rightfully feared close attack by airplanes all the time. They are often hard to balance properly-requiring strange or illogical gentleman's rules on their use. The well-known scene in Saving Private Ryan with a Flak 38 crew pushing the weapon around for use in direct fire against the Americans was far from any kind of stretch-the weapon only weighed around 900 lbs. Yet you will almost never find any capability for this in most action/tactics games due to the potential challenges faced by balancing it.

Those cursed 2cm guns. Im a newbie to the game and many early conquest runs have been almost destroyed by not seeing them before they open up on me

good video. also learned that the flak 88 can be put in trench's which makes sense but i guess i never thought about it for some reason.

Glad you enjoyed the video, and I only thought of putting the 88 in a trench after reading about actual German guides on how to use 88 guns in combat so all credit to them haha.

AP HE BC is not blast capped. It's ballistic capped. It loses less penetration over range due to ballistic cap. Few other tanks have APHEBC it's mostly soviets. SU 100 is good example. With APHEBC being better than regular APHE. SU-85 APHEBC is only preferable on close to max range compared to APHE of that gun. Just something to point out.

Well I had a plane today strike my arty line, flying past the Finnish 20 ITK twice, and it didn't get shot down. Is there still a problem with the AI plane targeting? Should I have manually controlled it? My own airstrikes get shot down all the time when I try... I'm upgrading to the twin barrel 20mm next battle.

Somtimes AA guns seem to struggle with targeting, very hit and miss best to have mobile AA if possible seems to be a little better .

This is game breaking for me. why would I even bother? Not going to beg and coax AA to shoot planes. Dynamic campaign is unplayable past mission 9 unless you dont mind the plane destroying your carefully prepared defenses every other time no matter how much AA you bring in. Trash game.

How can you switch the AA so that it first shoots air targets and then ground targets?

As far as i know you can not , the AA gun will always focus on what it sees first.

If you are here wondering why your AA fails to shoot down any planes in the dynamic campaign I hope you still have time to refund lol. AA is broken and as a consequence the game is trash. Might be worth all the jank AI and Jank pathing otherwise but this just kills it imo.

Just get a mod from the workshop if you want unrealistic AA accuracy.
