My mother loved Aafje Heynis’ voice. I listened to her all through my childhood. We played this on my mother’s funeral, ten years ago in february. It still brings me to tears. As a born and raised Amsterdam girl she was there when this footage was shot, 24 years old. Makes it all the more poignant for me to watch. Love you, mum. Rest in peace.

Your mother is with you now more than ever because she became eternal, she is in your breakfast every morning after visiting your dreams, in this music and all the things that will never perish. Our mothers never leave us they just metamorphose.

Precious composition, beautiful voice and utterly historical footage. I've had to stop at some passages to see the faces in more detail, so many lives, so many real stories, our own existence and the future of free nations had then been decided. This is an invaluable video, thank you so much.

When Holland was liberated by the Canadians, Aafje Heynis sang this song in the street in her hometown, where the people were celebrating. Hence the film footage.

The film footage, and the music, both make me cry. One day soon, the last soldier from World War II will be gone, and we must remember how many millions of lives were lost fighting a madman and his hypnotized followers, how many fought honorably against fascism, including the Dutch people.

Thank you Canada for liberating us. We will remember and we will honour the fallen heroes of Canada as long as God grants us air in our longs. The death of Aafje Heynis, the greatest Dutch alt ever, may be a loss to the world but it is a gain for heaven where now the angels enjoy the blessing of getting singing lessons from Aafje Heynis. May Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour and His Holy Birthgiver be with you and all whom you love. Best wishes from the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Happy New Year!

Barbara Streisand is respectful in this!I'm sure she grew up with this. Jessye Norman sings it with a glowing ,happy joy which in her reading seems apt no fervent old-fashioned though true feeling rapt religiosity with our Jessye!Somehow Aarfje Heynis is my favorite. It's a thankyou .

This would be a great national anthem. The passion here is so compelling. I first heard this sung by Barbra Streisand after the release of the hostages in Uganda. The passion was there too. It is such a magnificent vehicle of thanks giving for liberty .It is works such as these that make me hesitate about being a bigoted agostic
