When I suggested this movie to my closed ones. Some of them were literally amazed and were in shock to see such a masterpiece. They couldn't stop their tears; however, some of them said " Majnu pagal hogya and dukhi hokr Laila bhi mar gyi". And it was the most shallow summary I have ever got for this movie. Trust me guys, this movie is Way ahead of its time. The concept is just astonishing. This movie is not a love story. It's a spiritual journey of a guy who is, purely, in love with a girl. And when both of them seperate, he gets diagnosed with clinical depression because the seperation for him is traumatic. Through depression, he walks on his spiritual journey. When the pain pierces his whole heart deeply, and waiting seems like a hopelessness, he creates everything in his mind. He stops waiting and becomes happy with his imagination. His love transcends over the time and emerge as a love for God and everything in the universe as he starts to see Laila in everything. For him, everything starts making sense because everywhere is Laila whether in leaves or mountains. His love for Laila brings god to him. And Laila doesn't die because she is sad for majnu or something. She knows that Majnu has found god and there is no way to go back that's why she decides to end her life. In the end she says " kuch kharab nhi hua hai bss vo mjhse aage nikal gya hai". Because she knows that her physical body is of no use to her and Majnu. And they can only meet in heaven now. Therefore, she kills herself. In the end, oo meri Laila song says " yha pe bhi tu huro se jayada haseen, yaani dono jahano mei tumsa nhi ". And it makes so much sense now. Trust me, in deep love, this happens. Only intelligent or emotional people can go beyond their minds and can find god.

It's actually a sad reality that a modern interpretation of a classic story with newcomers who are trying to prove their mettle by means of talent and a solid script is pulled off the theaters before the movie can actually gather steam whereas a movie with star kids and an "adapted" screenplay is just praised to the heavens. I think where this movie is a landmark 1. First of all it shows love (which is detrimental to oneself) transcending into spiritualism where Qais tired of waiting for Laila starts imagining her as a person and reaches that point in his thoughts where he cannot recognize Laila when she comes to meet him in person. 2. Laila recognises this which others fail to do that Qais is now beyond all healing and has transcended into a world of him with her and she ends her life to be with him in that world 3. It is a love story which shows how strong their love w/out it being consummated and the end song O LAILA is beautiful that it shows them both living together after death roaming the earth. How beautiful it would be to imagine one being with one you love even after death roaming as wild spirits on the earth 4. The fact that you love someone so much that you become insane is frightening but romantic in a sense that few in this world can lay claim to 5. Imtiaz Ali explored the post stage condition of seperated lovers in his previous films in this film. It examines when Jordan in movie ROCKSTAR goes through after he is thrown out of his home and seeks refuge in Dargah or what he might have become post the end credits of the movie, turning insane like Qais or leaving his stardom for a life as an unknown

Beautiful ❣️. I wont describe much about the film because they who can feel love and its sufferings will simply feel each drop of this movie. There were many favourite scenes of mine,i will mention two of them- 1. When Kaiz finally gets the chance to see laila after a long wait of 4 years. The way he gets stunned and feel laila without even turning to her. The way all in a sudden everything stops working in his mind.. 2. When he finally meets laila after that accident happened in Pahalgam. This is my personal favourite scene. Here we can see that the wait is over,because now you have started to live with the person even without her presence. Which we clearly see that he sees her everywhere,in everything. Her absence or presence doesn't make any difference anymore,the oneness has got a different dimension now,where there is no waiting and no ending anymore. So laila says " Wo abb bht aage nikal chuka hai,aur mujhe v abb aage badhna hai".. Its spiritual now,no more worldly love. Thank u..

My mother kept raving about this movie and i finally watched it today. Although i had seen avinash and tripti before in bulbul, I was always scared of watching this movie because i knew I'd cry and feel extremely sad later. Finally i gathered the courage and watched it. My father had the title track as his caller tune for many months but i like Aahista more. Just the tune and Arijit and Jonita's voice uff 😢 my lips start to quiver and i just feel the crying sensation in my jaw. I cant stop weeping. I guess we resonate with Qais so much because the movie in the 2nd half mainly focusses on Qais. How from a charming and boisterous young man he becomes a shell of his old self and finally loses himself in finding Laila in nature. So so beautifully shown. The mountain is like a metaphor imo. A metaphor for something that he yearns deeply but is almost unattainable. The first time they go on a date he tells her about his desire to cross to the other side of the mountain and how he had tried to but after a certain distance, he failed. Actually Qais was already distraught after the wedding fiasco, when he returned to bury his father we could see how hollow and jumpy he looked. Like returning to Kashmir flooded him with her memories that he had tried to repress. And that scene in the coffee shop too! Its like he had just adjusted a bit but destiny again played its hand. Everytime he is distraught he seeks the solace of nature or a mountain. Thats why when they go to their cabin in Pahalgam, in the morning under the beautiful morning sun, the sight of the mountains beckons to him so hard that immediately starts to climb it. The mountain is like a metaphor imo. A metaphor for something that he yearns deeply but is almost unattainable. Something unattainable like his and laila's union. Thats why like a famished, thirsty person he climbs the mountain, gets upset wheb questioned, waits for his brother to leave to climb it again and finally when he is able to climb it, he attains the unattainable, he is metaphorically reunited with Laila. And that takes away his sanity. Well, to feel love at that level, one can't be sane, one has to be on another level spiritually. Aah, this is what i feel. I am also going mad i guess. But god Avinash Tiwary is too good re. I'll watch Madgaon express tomorrow!
