Ford should have a switch to engage the ptu so you will be able to be prepared for the situation instead of having to react to it. In some cases the response time makes you lose control of the vehicle. It would be safer for Ford to have the option for the driver to make the setting manually inside the cabin.

Owning both old and new versions the AAM is a much better system and reacts great compared to the 2007-2018 version from Ford.

The only problem with this is that it's not as readily available now. In other words, if you're speeding down the highway and then hit a patch of black ice and this thing engages, it has to take a second or two getting that relatively heavy drive shaft up to speed. So you're gaining efficiency, but you're losing a little performance/ losing those mili-seconds of reaction time. You save in wear of a constantly spinning shaft, but it also costs more to build/ in parts. I think it's better overall, but there's almost always a trade off somewhere. lol

I could be mistaken, but I think when it's in sport mode, awd is on full.

Linamar makes the 10 speed AT's in Ford and gm trucks also. Which are designed by ZF.

Great video! Is there any way to turn off or disengage AWD PTU on a 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid either electronically or mechanically?

Greetings, I am a fan of your videos. I have a Ford Edge 2010 3.5. I have done my own work thanks to your videos. I want to ask you for information on how many revolutions it should be idling, since it is marking me at 605 to 630, is that normal?

My 2016 3.7L V6 AWD MKZ got the updated PTU with the drain plug. How often would you change the gear oil. I'm at about 5600 miles on the new PTU. Also any idea if the 2019 MKZ has the updated drive train like the edge.. I knew that an American company was making them now just didn't know all the details I appreciate what you do

On my 2017 edge I change the ptu fluid every 20,000 miles, I’ve changed it twice now and both times the fluid looks really good

20K would be reasonable. I am currently working on gear lube runs and testing using Redline Light Weight Shock Proof gear lube (LWSP) I will have another test in the near future with about 15K on the Redline LWSP
