At the 50th Academy Annual Meeting & Scientific Symposium, Molly McCoy, CPO, will lead an interactive session on medical necessity in prosthetics and orthotics. During the session, panelists will discuss aspects of medical necessity and present a case study with medical record information and a prosthetic/orthotic care plan. Those in attendance will then have the opportunity to develop a short medical necessity argument for the type of P&O care and the expected outcome from its use and discuss these arguments with the panelists.
Attend this session to:
- Recognize the difference between medical necessity and functional needs or desires.
- Gain a basic understanding of what type of medical record information can inform medical necessity for an expected health outcome after the provision of the prosthesis or orthosis.
- Learn a method for processing medical information so it can be applied to medical necessity-based reasoning for prosthetic and orthotic care.
- Learn about the concept of job satisfaction related to working to the top of their license and creating deeper patient relationships by looking at the whole person and long-term outcomes.
