What makes him special is that he sings with such pain in his voice. His beautifully written lyrics usually reflect the struggle too, and the bright light at the end.

@@mae.6664 I am so sorry for your loss. It must have been SO traumatic for you. Suicide is a profoundly different kind of loss and grief. May I ask how old you were? I am always available to listen. I give good advice, but my youngest son blames himself, and me. He takes his pain out on me now that he is back home (he was arrested for domestic violence against me, and didn’t talk to me for a year. Worked construction all day and did his school work in his little studio in the hood at night. I didn’t see him graduate...no one told me). He knows I will always love and forgive him. My oldest son, whom I raised alone for his 1st 8 years, hasn’t spoken to me. Got married and didn’t invite my youngest and I. I suspect his wife is pregnant now, and I won’t see my grandchildren. I lost everything. My sons both blame me. I even lost all 3 of my dogs. I am a strong, but disabled Veteran. I have coping skills, but my boys...He did this FOUR days before the bday my youngest son and I share. It was my sons 18th. Any advice? He refuses therapy. I plan on trying one more time before he joins the military (he has a warrior’s heart like his Mom, but his is broken). I just want him in a good place before he moves on.

@@canadaiswatching I am so sorry for your loss. Both sons hate and blame me, but my youngest is more like me, so he is “back”. I CANNOT imagine your pain. I am so, at a loss to even find words. It is a different kind of pain, I will say that. This terrible club we didn’t ask to be in, and sour reward for being strong is to lose everything?? I wish you only joy and peace, and I will personally punch anyone who tells you to “be strong” right in the throat! 😝😝😝. I KNOW you’ll get it! Feel free to cry on my shoulder, or plot “pretend tortuous deaths” to people who think they “get it”. Hell, I don’t get it and I’m in the middle of it. Your loss is something I hope to never experience, but I will be your giggle-cry buddy. I don’t even know when I’m going to do either sometimes. 🤪🤪 Got your back Canada!

Time does not heal everything. Sometimes you get hurt so badly that it changes you forever. That is the challenge of life, to hold on tight and let go at the same time, with love in your heart, with joy in your heart, over and over again. That is what makes people decent. Love people fearlessly and let them know what they mean to you. If you don't then you are not living right. You don't get a second go at life and people don't live forever. Aaron Lewis is the fucking man.

@@Bendsteinberger isn't it Jeffery Steele?? Also it ended up being more emotional for him singing it bc of that but that wasn't the inspiration, his son passed many years after him writing the song..I remember seeing an interview with him where he explains how it came about and that "what hurts the most" came by accident when he screwed up the lyrics lol imagine if he hadn't ✌️

The thing that i love about Aaron Lewis is that he sounds the same on record as he does when he performs live. It really goes to show you that he's different from all the other "country" singers (thats in quotes cause the amount of autotune they use makes them a pop star, not a country music singer) out there that autotune the shit out of their music and then they get on stage and they sound like crap cause they can only sing on the record. Love this song. Love this guy. Love his overall persona.

Hearing it sung by the guy who sang "It's Been a While" and "For You" and all the songs on Break the Cycle - wow. Because that is exactly what I am trying to do - break the cycle of abuse. I harbor no ill will towards my abuser - she "...did the best (s)he could for me..."

Aaron is hands down my favorite singer of all time. I used to say songs (or artists) are like my kids, I love them all equally because each one brings something different and special to the table that helps them shine in that moment. Then this cat came along and not only shows up the music industry when they said he can't go from Staind to country with the flip of a switch but own it like a boss! Then does countless covers of other bands with a wide range of genres and just smokes it. This dude could sing the phone book and tickets would still sell out in a heartbeat.

What hurts the most? Listening to this version of this song on this video that my dad used to listen to, and then missing him like crazy because he's gone. :( Love you, Daddy.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS MAN..... Seriously listening to him and a couple of other artists has been the ONLY way Ive been able to get thru each day since my daughter Catrina Ann was murdered by her boyfriend on Dec 27th 2015. She was my only child and unfortunately due to bad choices I missed out on a big part of her beautiful life of 23 yrs. But she was snatched away before I could make amends and start fresh. She left behind a son Mason who was 3 at the time and is now going to be 8. Anyways listening to AARON LEWIS and various others I have been able to get thru, sometimes its song to song and other times its verse to verse but I get thru. NO IT DOESNT GET EASIER, NEVER WILL THAT HAPPEN BUT YOU LEARN HOW TO LIVE DAY TO DAY WITH THE WEIGHT AND PAIN OF THE TRAGIC LOSS. SO THANK YOU AARON LEWIS FOR HELPING A HEART BROKEN MOM DEAL WITH THE LOSS OR HER BEAUTIFUL 23 YR OLD DAUGHTER ( NOW WHO'D BE ALMOST 28 YEARS OLD) .

Tammy Huerta I’m so sorry for your loss hun. I can’t imagine what you’re going through. Losing a child is something no parent should have to endure. Sending prayers your way! This hurts my heart for you. I have children and I can’t imagine what you’re going through😭😭

@@southerngal9087 thank you believe me its the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with. NO PARENT SHOULD HAVE TO BURY THEIR CHILD EVER ITS SUPPOSE TO BE THE OTHER WAY AROUND. Believe me the main treatment I've taken in huge doses has been MUSIC...seriously and all of my gratitude and thanks goes to AARON LEWIS, CHRIS CORNELL, CHESTER BENNINGTON ( may they both R.I.P also) and a few other great artists. You know just when you think it isnt possible to endure anymore pain and bam life goes and tries to break you even more than you already are. But life fails to realize that some of us get stronger from all this crap and we just learn to live in the pain day after day. Thank you for your kind words and obvious feelings of concern. I'll make it thru but I anxiously await for my own departure because thats when Ill be happy once again knowing I'll see my beautiful Girl.

Tammy Huerta yeah girl, music has gotten me through some very dark times, but nothing you are having to go through. You don’t have to thank me girl! That’s just who I am, I am so sorry you’re going through all of this. Just know there are people out there that do care whether they know you personally or not. If you ever need to talk or anything, I’m a great listener. I know you won’t ever get over the death of your daughter, but sometimes talking helps make you feel better❤️

By far the best vocalist of this generation. He's absolutely amazing. Recommend going to one of his shows. Seen him 3 times since he went solo. And 7 times with Staind. Awesome.

wow, I just went through the entire roster of people who did this songwritter's song and then I get to this one. And it's the first version that I think matches the emotional aspect of the lyrics perfectly. I can't believe I'm saying this but Arron Lewis just impressed me.

I'm glad to hear you are serving your country. I wish I could. As for Love, it hurts, but if it's meant to be, they'll be waiting or they'll work with the duty and make things work. I'm almost 30 and still searching. Lost someone I fell in love with due to my own addictions and depression,

my ex bf listened to this song for days. we almost never were happy together, but i adored to lay silently with you and listened to this song... i know that you read youtube comments sometimes. i`m trying to be happy single mother with our daugher, i`m trying to hold on. but now i`m writing this whinigs down and crying my soul out. i will always love you, but i never say it to you in person. so much damage was done... be happy, mister.
