Last video we tore down Aaron's 1679cc engine and found some issues.
He ended up getting another duel relief case already cut for 90.5mm cylinders. I took his single port heads since they are in great shape and had them opened for the 90.5mm cylinders and also had the case double checked and hot tanked.
We were able to reuse his crank, rods, cam and lifters from his old engine into the new 1776 build. It didn't take much to get this mocked up a few times and then final assembly.

Nice work Gary! Pro tip- remove the rocker assemblies and spark plugs when you are priming the engine for oil pressure before first startup. That will keep the extra pressure off the rod bearings and cam until oil pressure is built.

@@VWJawbreaker I think we share the 'not afraid to try even if I get in too deep' mindset. My problem is I can't seem to find the time. My wife keeps threatening to sell my sunroof '67 and I keep begging for stays of execution. So far so good. When I get home to San Antonio it'll be around a 100 degrees not including the feels like - that tends to suck any inspiration right out the window, but hey, anything worth it ain't gonna be easy, right? Awesome video Gary, it would have been helpful before I built my 1776. I see you didn't use ratio rockers and cut moly pushrods, that's where I had problems with my engine and went back to stock stuff. After I got it together I read that having stainless valves with stock rockers can distort the stem, do you think that will be a problem down the road for me?
@VWJawbreaker
@VWJawbreaker Жыл бұрын
Rockers on the stainless valves can cause the valve tip to deform, they make lash caps that go over the end of the valves to prevent that from happening.

Gary is right lashcaps on the ss vales. You need steel or hd aluminum pushrods if have dual valve springs. Most ratio rockers require custom length pushrods as do wider or narrower than stock engines.

I would have stayed with the 0.055 deck height. Stock 1600 left the factory with 0.060. 0.094 deck height, is going to make the engine run hot, and hard to tune. Just my opinion.
@VWJawbreaker
@VWJawbreaker Жыл бұрын
Hey buddy. I hear what you’re saying however these heads have smaller combustion chambers and the compression would have been too high. I know people who have ran .090 shims under the cylinders and haven’t had a heat issue before. I also ran this info past a few others and they agreed this setup would be just fine.

I believe the higher the deck height the lower the compression ratio and the lower risk for the motor to run hot. Motors can tend to run hotter with higher compression rations.

Why not switch to dual-port heads ? I thought Single-port heads and the intake manifold were supper restrictive. I have seen you build a few signal port engines. Am I missing something ?
@VWJawbreaker
@VWJawbreaker Жыл бұрын
Well, he didn’t want to switch to dual port heads, that’s why he stayed with single port. Single port heads breathe just fine depending on what you’re trying to achieve. They do produce a little more low end torque but they won’t get the same high end rpm’s that a dual port will. Many busses still run built, larger displacement single port engines.

Hey buddy! I don’t recall seeing paper gaskets for the oil cooler or oil cooler mounts. They all take the rubber seals. As long as you don’t over torque then I’ve never had an issue.
