Hi James, I am not sure if I am misinterpreting the ASTM method of test but, in the video the technician seems to drop the tamper from 5mm above the mould and not 5mm from the top of the sample? please correct me if I am wrong.

Labbie RSA/NZ Hello, You are correct. The tamper should be ~5mm boe the "Sample" not the mold. As you may have noticed, the description (voice over) does say 5mm above the "Sample." However, I felt for the visualization, it was better for the gentlemen to bring the tmper up where it could be filmed. I hope this helps. James

james Lee Thank you for that James I understand, the test method refers to the colorimetric method of determining SSD but I cannot seem to find a video on it. Did you guys do one?

+Ashton Erickson Hello Ashton, Thank You for your feedback. Can you elaborate on what you are referring to when you say the "height of the drop?" We have checked the most recent editions of both AASHTO and ASTM specifications and they state the tamper should be held ~5MM above the surface of the fine aggregate. This is also what we say in the video. Are you referring to something else? All feedback is welcome. It is our goal to provide relevant and accurate information for these procedures. Again, thank you for your feedback.
