thanks again. just to clarify, the sales ledger isn't the same as sales account which is an income account? the sales ledger is just a non-double entry system of recording SLCA values?

Hi Peter, yes that is correct. the sales and purchases ledgers are also referred to as 'memorandum' accounts, meaning 'for information'.

Are you sure £41141 the total sales should entered in debit side of sales account ? costumers as an income on their account when owes us is credit So our sales account should be on credit side. Or maybe I'm completely confused.

Hi. This question is covering how to reconcile the Sales Ledger (customer's individual accounts) with the Sales Ledger Controls Account, not the double entry for a credit sale within the General Ledger. The £41,141 DR is to the Customer Accounts within the Sales Ledger, not to the Sales income account in the General Ledger. There is no double entry relationship with the customer accounts within the Sales Ledger and that of the Sales Ledger Control account in the General Ledger. Double entry only happens within the General Ledger. The Sales Ledger is what is known as a memorandum account and is for information only, being the details of what is owed by each customer, which is not known within the Sales Ledger Control account within the General Ledger.
