I lived in Aba as a school boy in the late '90s where I attended one of the infamous all-boys schools there. I still recognise the foot of Ogbor Hill and that ubiquitous uncompleted multi-storey building there. I am beginning to think that building is a monument to something that is not public knowledge yet. The waterside market seems to have vanished. What happened to it? East road has not changed much. I have fond and not-so fond memories of Aba the city of my wild teens. Ogbor Hill, Ukaegbu street, Omoba road, 7up, East road, Ngwa road, School road, the old Enyimba stadium, Pound road (during the booming '90s Nollywood scene), Milverton, Faulks road, Ikot-Epene road with the brothels and an arcade gaming center that was not far from NTA on it, and the road that takes you to Ovom girls secondary school etc... There were my stomping grounds back in tha day. Thanks for sharing!

The waterside market caused a lot of traffic in the area and there was also a lot of accidents with trailers falling and claiming lives. Yes some part of Aba hasn't changed much but for the areas that have it makes all the difference to the city😊 I can relate to the fond and not so fond memories of living and growing up in any city. Thank you❤️

I appreciate the video. I resided in Aba during the late 70s and 80s. Back then, Ekenna was among the most picturesque streets, especially around the golf course area. Our home was located on Faulks Rd, right across from the motel. It's disheartening to witness the current state of Aba. I remain hopeful that she'll regain her splendor in the near future.

Wow... That was a long time ago, the mindset then was quite different. From the 90s most places started taking a turn for the worse instead of improving but we are hopeful considering some of the changes we are seeing. Thank you❤️

Very rich city. Abia state government should employ street sweepers to keep the city street free from dust and sachet water bags. The government should adopt tree plantation on every street.

They don't need street sweepers to sweet the roads. Constructing more roads especially the inner street and plants trees and grasses and pavement would keep the roads clean.
@chikeziejohn3057
@chikeziejohn3057 Жыл бұрын
@@ikemmanuel7859 so dry fallen tree leaves will sweep themselves? Or sands that trapped by the road sides during the rain will also sweep themselves abi? There no dispute here Mr. No matter the amount of road you constructed or amount of trees you planted, without street sweepers or truck street sweepers, the rain wind will mess up the road by blowing dry tree leaves and leaving the rain sands, plastic bottle, sachet water etc, on the roads..so sweet sweepers or truck street sweepers are needed to maintain the ones the government constructed.

If you watched videos or have been to Kaduna, Kano and most northern states, you will weep for Igbo states, with the small land mass yet nothing to show for. Our Igbo leaders are the worst in Nigeria

I was bled in Aba as a five year old boy, by my parents, and started my schooling in Saint George's Elementary School, in Aba, owned by one Mr. Ikpemba who was the proprietor, a Calabar man, a real Educator, and whose family was full of persons that were educators. When I was in Elementary One, the man was already a very old man, but very meticulous, strong, and he was like a grandfatherly mentor to my young father and mother, who were stationed there in Aba, as my father was a young man, but heading the government Ministry of Health, and a Church, serving Christ. Mr. Ikpemba was retired, but very strict and very disciplined with the pupils. The pupils would secretly tease and mock in Igbo language Old man, Ikpemba, like Eyambah Eyam!, as he would ordered and trained his teachers to flapped the pupils that disobeyed their parents at home, as the parents report to Ikpemba or the headmaster. But he installed in all his students love for learning all through life, and conservativism .

We have had the worst leaders in Igbo land. Visit Kaduna, Kano etc in the north and see roads for yourself then you will weep for Igbo land. I think all Igbo past governors deserves to be jail for life, With the small land mass we have yet Igbo land is nothing to write about! Shame on Igbo governors! Sometimes when I see some ignorant people praising these men I weep

I get your point, we've had disgraceful politicians but Lagos is not just a state, it was the former capital of the country in this millenium, that opened the space for it to be Nigeria's melting pot for all, the developments there are immensely contributed non-Yorubas and Yorubas, so use another state to compare please. I agree that with good leadership, our economic and commercial prowess, the east should be a top destination.
