That is a testament as to how *good* that life raft was. No servicing for 20 years, abused in storage..... and it simply just works! Fantastic. In an emergency situation, knowing what I know so far, I'd have been happy with your old life raft. 😁
@FrothLyfeSailingNandji4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it inflated, that’s pretty much it. Did you see that the stabilisers completely tore off and floated away? Wait to see the next episode before you choose your raft of choice 😅
@chrisyoung14784 жыл бұрын
The manufacture of that raft would be proud to see this video, not that they would have approved of the care and lack of maintenance of the raft, but it worked, and it would have saved you, albeit not ideally. Also, did you try the batteries, flares, water and food? I would test everything in that raft, just to see (and taste).

I don't think this raft would save anyone... You are seeing it on the beach, but will it really float in deeper water? LOL! The next video is out and I started to watch it and then thought this one would make that one make more sense!

Great episode. Survival tips: if you ever have to use it, the seas will probably be up and the wind will be up. The raft will move quicker than you swim, hold the painter line and pull yourself to raft. Dont throw ditch bags or foods bags, chances are you will never see them again. Hold them going to raft. As far as Marley, suggest booties for him in ditch bag, prevent punctures, and grab ahold of him moving to raft.

Absolutely solid video full of concise and valuable info. I remember on the destroyer having to re-hab 12 12-man rafts. What a job at sweltering Pearl Harbor. Turns out we almost had to use them as we got hit by a massive typhoon . Long story, but all survived. Stay away from typhoons and hurricanes. They will no doubt turn your raft over. Secure everything you can!

Great episode........I do a lot of hiking and survival is survival, one of the things that I would pack is a couple Gallon zip lock bags. You can never have too much water storage. You want at least 2 and double them up, in the event of leaks. They take up very little space and have multiple uses.

This was very interesting. I too was really surprised that the raft stayed together and inflated. One thing I would add is a hand operated water maker, as made by Pur. That, some fishing kit and a fine mesh for filtering plankton and you might stand a chance long term. Lots of reports of problems with EPIRBS and we all know large ships often don't monitor the VHF, (at least the ones I called didn't seem to).

Looks like you thought alot about Safety if needed. I would suggest a LED Flashing (Strobe)(Small) light attached to each bag that you maybe throwing overboard for visual at nightime. Marley just loves to jump and head for land, such a wonderful family dog. Old raft, not bad, 19yrs. old since inspection. I bet the old water would give you diarrhea and yet no toilet paper in the survival packet..LOL Catch'a later.

Glad you practiced on the old life raft. And never actually had to use it. The new raft and your emergency plan seem well thought out. But in chaotic conditions even the best made plans can fail. The EPIRB and your new life raft will save you but not to add to the weight but chuck a hand held solar phone charger (multiple connectors) in your ditch bag, grab the electronics and throw them in a predetermined dry bag, and you'll be able to charge the electronic items. It's not a very strong charge but at least you'll be able to conduct 'scheds' back to fam or the search parties as it could take a couple of days to reach you, and although the weather will probably be crap when you have to abandon ship, the weather the following day or the next will be good, most likely lol, at least you'll have some comfort of a means to charge some electronics. Anyway lets hope you never have to use it. Bluedog10 aka Nick Acton.

I think it was wise to buy a new life raft for sure..... it's a big money black hole that you hope you never have to use, but pray that it works when you DO need it. Nope your right to mount the life raft towered the stern on the out side of the rail cause if you were to get rolled in a storm you need to be able to deploy from in the water as well as in the boat cause if you get rolled your probably wont even have Time to think about screaming shit before the boats up side down
