Several times I almost threw in the towel on this one! This is a RARE, very sought after 1971 Buick Riviera Boat-tail, with the famed rear end designed after the 1963 Corvette Stingray. It's got a 455, Th400, Buick Maxtrack rear end and best of all; it's been off the road for 30 years! Think it will run and drive back home?

My grandpa's 1972 Buick Electra 225 currently runs but has been in a barn for 30+ years, 70k miles, interior is a literal time capsule. I've not been making time to go over and give it the small love it needs like wheel cylinders, brake masters, and ps pump. I'm going over to work on it tomorrow, he's 85 and the car was his lifelong best friends who give it to my grandpa when he passed away. I want to get it to a couple meets with him this season

"I got a back track waterfall like you wouldn't believe and don't you go chasing it!" Derek never seems to run out of humorous witty things to say which is one of the reasons I love watching his channel. I do the same thing when working alone and I just don't say these things out loud when I'm working alone. I'm sure many of us are but I have to say that he does this so well that he could probably take up doing stand up comedy if he ever gets tired of fixing these old cars. But I doubt that he ever will get tired of that. It's just too embedded in him. Fixing these old cars is just in his blood and who he is and I would love to be able to turn a wrench with him someday. Wouldn't that just be a treat. LOL

If it were me, I'd just make it safe to drive and enjoy, reassemble the interior best possible, clean it up a bit more, and auction it off back to the collector market, that one of a kind rear louvre set up is still desirable to the Buick collector enthusiast, put the money towards more rescues, maybe find a small block donor care with complete drivetrain to swap into the older Buick, cool show and look forwards to more episodes.... Thanks Derek !

This Iconic Buick would be a treasure for whomever ended up with it... Such incredible styling and that motor, crazy how it got resurrected by you in the field like you did with such humor tongue in cheek. Every time you show another vantage of the styling, I just have to remember to calm my pounding heart, the deck lid on the rear there is amazingly unique, obviously including the vents as you mentioned but just its shape is so completely crazy... If anyone saw this deck sitting alone in a field and they were not born yesterday, they'd know what it belonged to immediately.

Went to the Army and left it parked at home and my dad hounded me about letting it waste away and pushed for selling it. Sold it for a little of nothing in 94. Had been sitting for 7 years. What impresses me so much is that you never curse while working on cars and engines, especially old ones. Anybody who knows what working on cars and engines is means a lot of cursewords when things go wrong (which they often do) like stripped screws, electrical shocks, the occasional insect sting, and the difficulty of trying to figure out how to solve problems that come up out of nowhere. The fact the you keep your cool and you never cuss is (to me) just as impressive as your mechanical knowledge and your awesome videos. Keep up the good work Derek!

I had my car towed to a shop for repairs when the emergency cable broke one day when I parked it (manual transmission parked on a hill). I refused to drive it across town just in case something happened to the service brake, because I wouldn't have had the emergency brake to stop me. And here you go driving down a long, winding, steep hill, and then through town without any usable brakes whatsoever. I haven't been that nervous watching a video like this in a long time. The crazy stuff you are willing to risk is way beyond anything I'd be willing to do, for sure. That, or I'm way to cowardly to take any risks. Either way, cheers, and keep up the great work!
