Backyard Trail Builds

Күн бұрын

Last year we built a 1/4 mile flow trail in my backyard. On this trail I created some of the craziest features I could think of: an arrow jump, step-ups, whale tail and many others. We are rebuilding my backyard mountain bike trail after it has been neglected for 8 months and riding it with new friends and old ones!

Dude, you need to cut a very basic XC climbing trail/loop to take you back to the top. If you don't have to get off and walk back up, I think you'd be more encouraged to ride it more.

Your honesty is one of the huge reasons I love your channel. A lot of people are afraid to admit they are nervous but everyone gets nervous. This is a trail of huge features and from the videos you looked to be absolutely shredding it. Also so satisfying to watch you clear the weeds from the trail and make it come back alive.

I think that trail needed to be over grown then brought back and tuned up. Having the vegetation right back to the edge of the single track really makes it feel right. Great job, I know you’ve mentioned it being a hard few months. I hope you are finding some peace and purpose. We will all be here when you want to upload more but don’t stress about it.

If you want an idea have always had this cool thought that if you took a berm and you made a landing on the landing on the other side of it and used the berm as the jump you could create sort of a two way thing.
@mattspen
@mattspen 3 жыл бұрын
I made a berm kind of like this, it’s almost a complete circle or most of a figure 8 that doesn’t touch. And then where it nearly pinches you can jump the pinch ride it backwards then after coming around jump at the same pinch but perpendicular this time to continue down the trail going forwards.

I grew up in a fairly rural area and I can confirm it’s a normal thing to go barefoot outside, no matter where you go. You get massive calluses on your feet so you don’t get full feeling. I would get back from full days spent in our thicket of oaks and my feet would be bloody but I just wouldn’t feel anything. I’ve never gotten ticks, even in summer, but I’ve gotten a large number of infections. When I moved closer to the city I was surprised how many people have concerns like yours (probably from a lack of experience with such issues). People just tended to shy away from wooded or overgrown areas, and that was weird to me as my rural friends and I would always play in stuff like that. City people always seem to be so adverse to mild discomforts, even getting a little dirty, getting small cuts, etc. sets them off. Fun fact: Bugs are the funniest to watch them deal with.

It's funny how you don't use any power tools (even an electric string trimmer would've been great for cutting down those weeds) to clean up the trail, and then when it's time to move a couple wheelbarrows of dirt, you bust out the skid steer. XD

I volunteer a lot at my local trail. You are absolutely correct - WAY more people show up for work days when we're building a new feature, but it's the mundane work that keeps the trail riding good. Pulling "sand puddles" clean, clearing the water drain trenches...and trimming the vegetation and covering roots on the green trails...and cleaning the slippery green stuff off the wooden features...and repairing rotted or broken parts...and "armouring" sandy hills to slow erosion...etc
