Abandoned buildings, graffiti and a B-17 Bomber crash site....climbing Mt. Tom with J&M

Mountain Park, located on Mount Tom in Holyoke, Massachusetts, was originally built as a trolley park by the Holyoke Street Railway Company. Trolley parks were built just outside populated areas to encourage trolley usage on weekends. The Holyoke Street Railway company created two attractions, Mountain Park toward the base of Mount Tom, and a large house on the summit of the mountain.

That B-17 crash site/Memorial was an amazing find! I'm assuming, since they were flying low enough to hit that mountain, they must've been headed to Westover Air Force Base in West Springfield. That sucks -- to think that all those guys survived WWII and were most likely heading home... they were, what, 10 minutes away from Westover when they all perished? That's just too tragic for words!

Very sad!! We actually found that place by geocaching...we probably mentioned that in the video. It was a very nice tribute to those young men who lost their lives! Thank you so much for coming along with us! This was a very grueling day and the hike was exhausting, but all well worth it!!

@@jonblaze333 OK, Chicopee it is then, lol. I haven't been to Westover AFB since the early '90s -- I couldn't remember what town it was, just that it was in that general area somewhere. Just curious, do you happen to know if it's still an operating base or was it switched to a National Guard facility (like PeaseAFB in NH)?
