YES!!!! I always wanted to get in this place. I didn’t think it was accessible plus you would think since the motel office is right across the lot they’d call the cops on you. This is so cool, Parker. I’m so happy you got in here!! That vintage footage you found in the beginning is so great. This was really cool to see.

Regarding the damage: some of what you found was clear evidence of "copper pirates." They bring hammers and bolt cutters. Smash out the tiles to steal the pipes. Knock in walls to rip out the wiring. Sometimes they also burn down buildings; their common method of stripping the insulation off wires is to burn it off, and if they're a bit dim (drugs, etc.) they may do it indoors "so nobody sees the smoke" and end up burning the building. Some of that was just petty vandalism, people kicking the walls. I'm surprised I saw some light fixtures, and they didn't smash the toilets.

My most incredible memory of Waldorf is of a liquor store that sold mixed drinks through a drive through window. One could literally pull up in one's car, order a gin and tonic and drive away, blissfully enjoying your cocktail as you continue on your way. Different times.

This place is about 30 to 45 minutes from where I live. I have been past it so many times. It's a shame that it is so messed up. I don't remember ever going in there. I went to the Stardust Inn several times. Now it is pretty much gone. I saw several singers at the Stardust. I really enjoyed going there. My hangout was The Village Barn in Morningside, Md. They had live music but no famous singers. Me and my friend went there a lot. Have a few beers, dance, just had lots of fun. Those were the good old days. Thanks for bringing back those memories.

The interior seemed like a maze. I'm guessing that second floor entrance you used was there because of safety codes: If there was no way to go outside from the second floor people could have been trapped there was a fire or other emergency on the first floor. What a contrast between the old film footage and the video of today. Still there was some nice woodwork. Maybe some of it can be salvaged but I think the building itself will be demolished; because of its age and condition it would probably be cheaper to build something new rather than fix up what's already there.

Gambling ended in Southern Maryland in 1968. Almost every store had slot machines. I remember that St. Mary's Pharmacy in Leonardtown had a fire. They opened a temporary location next door, and had the slot machines set up before the prescription counter.

Let me set you straight. This has always been a restaurant that had slot machines in it. This is located in Waldorf, MD and only had slot machines until the 1960s along with many other locations at the time. It has NOT been abandoned 15 years. It was closed down about 5 years ago because the service and quality of the restaurant went downhill (it was called Rip's at the time). There is a motel behind it which, was (or is) owned by the same people. The second floor you saw was a multi-function venue for weddings, etc. The vandalism you saw is actually very recent due to drug addicts and punks that live around that neighborhood (although, things are getting cleaned up I hear). I used to eat there when I was stationed in the area while in the Navy. I've been through there and I heard that either it will be remodeled to open as a restaurant again or it may be demolished along with the motel as that area is under major redevelopment. In the 1960s, Waldorf, MD was a popular tourist and celebrity destination until gambling was not permitted anymore.
