Thank you so much for taking me back down memory lane....I actually went to this College in 1972/74 and I had my room in the Old Radbrook building. Awesome place....soooooo sad and a disgrace to see it abandoned when it has so much more to give. Again THANK YOU! ❤

I did my teacher training there way back in the early 1970s when there were also catering courses. The grand staircase led up to the principal’s office and I had a room on one of those corridors with a shares bathroom and kitchen for each corridor. The grand room wit the blue ceiling was a common room.

I believe before being a college this building was actually an old hospital, it felt like a hospital whilst inside the building but there was talk of it being made into housing after it closed down!
@jvatell61118 жыл бұрын
Wow! So clean. It must have been very impressive when it was first built. As you walked up the main staircase at the junction where they fork off to the right and left I bet those boarded up windows had beautiful stained glass in them just like at 08:06 but even nicer. A sad waste for a building that is still in good shape and could still be repurposed. Thank you for sharing.

The one at 16:19 was the training restaurant for silver service for years 1 and 2. And the kitchen attached was for years 2+. It was open to public and staff. But down the other end of corridor was student canteen.

This was never a hospital. Shelton was a mental hospital at Bicton. This was Radbrook catering Collage The Shropshire Technical School for Girls opened in 1901 at Radbrook on the outskirts of Shrewsbury in purpose-built accommodation. The college aimed to provide education to enable girls to become efficient heads of households and farmers’ wives, and also provided training for those going into domestic service. Courses included dairying, poultry keeping, cookery and household management. The development of the girls’ technical school was part of a national scheme to provide technical education for those who had left school. It was mirrored by the establishment of the Boys Technical School in Shrewsbury, later the Wakeman school By the 1940s the college was renamed the Shropshire College of domestic subjects and dairy work and in the 1950s it became Radbrook College. In 1977 the college became part of the wider Shrewsbury Technical College. A culinary museum was established on the site in the 1980s which managed and collected artefacts, archives and books. Later additions with little architectural merit will be removed, returning the building to its original victorian footprint and injecting additional light and aspect into the 17 unique apartments contained within. High ceilings, original fireplaces and balconies will offer buyers a quality of space enhanced by authentic features but perfect for 21st century living. . In 2014 ( Radbrook Catering college) closed and the site was sold for building. Radbrook Catering college in Shrewsbury Now known as Radbrook Hall has taken centre stage once more, at the heart of the new development hosting 17 apartments. with 126 architect-designed new homes that include 22 independent living units. much of the site is now finished with most homes already occupied.

I subscribed, I like the videos that I have seen. This building has been mny things. Most of the original features are obscured by an overlay of newness. The ballusters of the front stairs would indicate a construction built in the 1890's. It's great the vandals have been at bay! Such a nice place. As an engineer I would suggest that you visit Boiler, Elevator and Electrical Distribution Rooms. They often contain many original features. I used to go to this college, studied hairdressing back in 2010, think it closed in either 2014 where they extended the London road campus and moved all the courses there. My Aunt discovered your video and sent it to me as I was a student at Shrewsbury College for 5 years, 3 of which were spent at this college until it closed and merged with the main campus in 2014 (where I studied my final 2 years) i actually studied hair, beauty and complimentary therapies and was interested they replaced all the beauty couches and seem to have moved all of the old ones into a childcare tutor room rather than leaving them in the salon's. You may have visited the salon's and just not captured them in camera but I would be intrigued to see how they were left! By all means if anyone has any questions or would like to know which rooms/areas were used for what then do ask! Thanks for the viewing! Very interesting! :):)

Looks like a true national treasure! It is shameful if they allow it to fall into ruin (hasn't happened yet, tho) while its still in fairly sound shape. Too often people don't truly lament what they had til it's beyond hope of lost. We see this brand of aimlessness on the rise. Hope the Shrews' council there has a thought!
