I am the owner. I want to clear up some confusion in the comment section as to why there are new tires on the car. Before I reached out to RJ, I was going to try and do the job myself. The tires that were on the car were completely flat and the car was sitting on the wheels. I put the car on jack stands, removed the wheels and had new tires installed. After that , I found WD Detailing and decided to let them work their magic! Great guys/very professional!

OPENYD You're one lucky dude to own such a beautiful classic. Would love to see a video on the start up of this car, hear the sound of that 24valve straight six and see it being driven on the road. RJ did a fantastic job, super thorough, but then the foundation was good to start with being a well cared for un-abused example which looks to be fully loaded. The price of these cars is going through the roof, hope you start enjoying it again..

How ironic. I also bought my e28 m5 in 1998, and still own. Like him, I was blown away the first time I saw one new in 1988. Instantly it became the car I had to have "one day". Bought mines at East Bay Bmw in Pleasanton Ca for 11k in 1998. Great job filming this special car!

IMHO, the e28 was the last of the great BMWs. I drove the heck out of my 524td. Although not a popular one, it was rare and the diesel performed remarkably well and got 40 mpg. Sold it at 280k, and the last count before I lost track was 400k. All the materials are extremely durable and easy to clean. Never any surprises.

1988 e28 M5. The only year for import to the US. Import numbers were somewhere between 800 and 900 units. All were black exterior w/tan leather interiors. Except a few that had a black interior. Excellently balanced. It handled well on the track. And it was surprisingly quick for the day.

Awesome video and great detailing but one thing our shop found with old euros is a good hand wash is preferred as pressure washers blow water past mirror and window seals and can cause a fair amount of water ingress.

Hey l owned a 1988 E28 M5 back on black ( Canadian car) back in the early nineties l love that it has single stage black paint from the factory l had mine doing very close to 150 mph and the car just hunkered down and got along with the business at hand. For North American, l'm pretty sure it was one year only production in 1988 It was the fastest production sports sedan at the time.

Yeah unfortunately with these older Bimmers that are equipped with the Bosch jetronic fuel injection system, which I'm pretty sure this one is, if it sits for any prolonged and extended length of time like this one has, he’s going to have to replace the wholesale fuel system because it's all going to be trashed. That is not a cheap endeavor unfortunately, most places charge about $3k for that job, just to get it running. But it is definitely worth it on this car because it's such a classic icon of the era. I’m glad to hear that it's going to be back on the road again.

BTW, met someone who was a patient of mine a few weeks ago who knows you guys well. Said something big was about to happen. I asked if you were as genuine in person as you appear on video and she said “absolutely…and then some”. Weird how the conversation came up and how I found out she knew this KZbinr car detailer…..I showed her a video and said “you mean these guys?” We both had a good laugh. There's a reason that these cars had NO CUPHOLDERS. They are not a restaurant cubicle. Both hands on the wheel unless you are shifting. Hungry or thirsty? Get out of the M5 and go into the restaurant. Mine had 105,000 miles on it when I sold it to a guy who was checking it out when I was working the course at a SCCA Autocross. Classified in the G Stock class with Mustang GTs, Z28 IROC Camaros and Pontiac Trans AMs. It was priceless to see their faces when they found out it was only a 3.5 liter six. I would tell them what their cars needed was more doors. ;-)

The First and Best of the M5s. You could have it in any color you wanted ,as long as, it was black and they only sold them (in the US) for one model year 1988. That car needs a new home. The mechanicals are probably in need of attention too. A buddy of mine has one and it is rough on the outside, but it has it where it counts and I love driving it.
