I attended Harding early 2000's. I wish you went down in the elevator near the lunchroom. That basement area is like a time capsule. I went once, and found old photos, items, and other cool things from throughout Hardings history. The food was great. The variety was top tier for a highschool. I was on the football team, and the wrestling team during my time, but I was also pretty mischievous. Every seat in the auditorium has my name on it. This video brings back a lot of memories. Thanks

I went to Harding from 94-98 to attend the amazing health careers magnet program. Our school was next to the city’s hospital and across from another health facility. The teachers were educated and able to provide to a diverse student body. Many had their masters degrees or above. The students came from all walks of life. Just because we were from inner city neighborhoods doesn’t mean we were the worst. We were amazing!!!! So many great memories and amazing people!!! ❤❤❤❤ to Harding. I hope they rebuild it and use its beautiful design for good!! It’s a real estate heaven for either commercial or living. The stage and auditorium were majestic. The celebration of a mix of cultures were always brewing!!! Love and light to that space!!

If you're from Bridgeport, there is no way you can be shocked at the way they left this school and left so much behind. The circus may have left Bridgeport long ago but, the clowns were left behind to run the city. This is just such a Bridgeport thing to do. They never get it right. I for one am not shocked one bit.

Thanks for doing this. It was both nostalgic but disappointing to see how my high school was left when they decided to rebuild it. So much of the history could have been preserved and taken to the new building. I also think that for a city that's always crying about money for its schools, they sure left a lot of supplies that could have either been auctioned or donated. Especially the books! That library was still quite full. Perhaps alumni could have supported that initiative with proper planning and notice. I know many of them, including myself, would have.

Went to Tech, too. Walked (or drove from middle of Junior year, on...) past Harding every morning on my way to BHT. All the kids in my East End neighborhood who didn't got to Prep or ND went to Harding. Kind of upsetting to see everything they left behind. Typical city government. Nothing from the old school goes to the new school. Everything has to be brand new. Thousands and thousands of dollars worth of stuff left to be crushed and piled in a landfill somewhere when this building comes down or gets repurposed.

I attended Harding and graduated in 1972. It had big bleachers flanking the field and they were packed for the annual Thanksgiving day football game against rival Central HS across town. I performed on the stage twice in annual school plays. the murals in the library should be saved and all archival materials should have been removed and catalogued at time of closure. Thanks to the camera team. A lot of memories . The science labs were state of the art back then. The school was excellent for an inner city school. I think I got a great education there.

This is crazy because I lived on the street in front of that school for 20+ years. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE! The police would block off the streets at dismissal for a good half hour and the students that flooded the streets were so wild, causing havoc and chaos every day, often fighting, selling drugs and damaging cars on the daily. The neighborhood itself is not safe though since the school closed, it made living there just slightly more tolerable. Still tho, if you can avoid living in this area, do so AT ALL COSTS

It's such a beautiful school, especially the library. My school library was like 4 rows of shelves in the middle of the room, had 1 desk, which was joined with the librarian's desk, and no computers whatsoever. Was also locked half the time. But we would still go there sometimes when it was unlocked, just to escape the brain-melting noise of the corridors and just walk between the shelves for an entire recess.

Thanks for showcasing Harding H.S. I worked in the kitchen for 3 years until the school closed. We had 3 spots for the meals: hot spot, deli and regular meals. The food was definitely different then. We also had snack bar for cookies, juice, ice cream and hot wings for the students to purchase. Also a teachers side which offered hot meals or salads. I retired in 2018

I grew up in Bridgeport, and went to Harding HS. Class of 2007 here! This video, while it brought me to tears, didn't surprise me all that much. The politicians played off building the new school as cutting their losses, but the original school was a historical gem that needed to be preserved. The new Harding was built to complete with Central High School, or rather "catch up" with its athletic program. I went to the Medical Careers Magnet and I'm disappointed that you didn't find the sim lab in the back hallway on the first floor. There were mannequins for the CNA students to practice on back there. Would have made for some amusing footage, I think. As someone else said, the basement is also a good spot to explore, as it contains a bomb shelter and would be a time capsule compared to the rest of the school. If you ever go back, check it out. (Make sure to visit the pool on the third floor too. My Harding Heads know what that's about.)

Wow beautiful school, you don’t see anything like this anymore. You are do talented! It’s weird that they left everything behind. I think it’s dangerous to have all of the chemicals out and open along with all of the specimens. The district is just letting the school fall apart and go to waste. No wonder schools don’t have enough money to pay teachers. Schools are always asking for money yet they leave the school open and abandoned for scrappers to steal everything. I hope moving to a new school helped improve grades and test scores 🙄

I failed 9th grade biology in 1980 because I refused to disect a fetal pig! It was awful because the teacher made this big deal and embarrassed me in front of the class. I just couldn't do it. I was shaking, and I know now I was having a panic attack 😢😢😢😢 I hear that can't make you do that anymore!!

Wow! I went to Harding High back in 1983. I remember seeing Charles Smith that was a senior at the time and made it to NBA. I was told that plans for hospital expansion would take over the property.

Class of 1982. Some of the best moments in my life took place in that building. Still in contact with some classmates to this day. Sad to see condition school left in. Hopefully, city will step up effort to maintain it. 😢

Great explore Steve. Always bugs me to see schools get abandoned and trashed. No Cafe in my old high-school. Food was ok, gravy turned jellylike after a day. All that stuff left is a real waste.
