We explore an abandoned traditional family home within a quiet village in Portugal, it has sat frozen in time for over 8 years…
Family was at the heart of all that they did, countless collections of photographs capturing times gone by, a religious couple raised their three children here, they passed their time together without too many distractions.
Life began to change when the children were in their late teens, the man of the house, their father, passed away, a devastating loss for this close knit family.
A few years later, the children moved to Brazil together to seek out better job opportunities, leaving their mother to live here alone.
Their mother is shown enjoying time with her grandchildren, now in old age.
The final chapter for this house closed after her passing, nobody has returned to gather their old memories, the building is gradually decaying yet remains perfectly frozen in time, for now…

I’m 60 and my husband is 66. We are life long artists living in a housing association flat in Cardiff. To quote Glenn Carmichael (RIP) friend and poet “no blue plaques on my high rise” and love the idea of respectful people like you coming in after we are dead. Keep up the good work, peace and love ✌🏽❣️and best wishes from South Wales

That dining room was lovely....I find it fascinating seeing places like this, it stirs your mind & leaves you wondering why no one comes to pick up the memories that are left to fade with time. And as always Sam brilliant intro to this lovely place. 🖤 🖐️ 🖤WA State

My grandfather would date all the pictures he took as well from when he took them and even sometimes the location the pictures were taken and who is in the pictures. We still have a bunch of them. You can feel the love in this little home. Reminds me of my maternal grandparents house. My grandfather grew his own grapes in the backyard and made his own wine in the basement with a grape press and he had barrels to firment the wine. I miss those days. This video definitely brought back memories. Thank you Sam and Jess. Love your videos.

I'm relatively new to today's technology and appreciate it's certain magic but it is comforting to see these oddly moving places. Portugal looks so pretty and this home has a warm slow pace left over from a simpler time. Satie's piano music was soothing, beautiful. Thanks guys 😊❤️

Its sad to see decades of photos of family history, and documented memorabilia keepsakes only to be forgotten through time. The antique furniture is remarkably pristine and salvageable, it be shameful to see all this just sit to rot. Love the orange tree!

I love the thoughtful design of everything and the internal shutters on the windows are perfect. Close in cold times and sleeping in late without any weathering and unreachable outer types..adds security too. The 2nd building is clearly for housing for the farm hands with that large communal dining room & kitchen with small bare rooms. Workers must be there at 5 in the morn, farm workers didn't live miles away or have houses & cars like today. I am sure the maids & cook etc had simpler rooms in the main house to be available on call. The land provided the wealth as usual for all these Chateaus and Mansion houses and the employees were the muscle engines to fill that safe with cash to buy these fine trappings you see. Relying on the guidance and knowledge of the owners to keep it afloat. Sadly when the husband dies so does the farm as most wives would not be trained in all the dutiee he did and of course the modern kids went on to college and professions in the cities far away where the exciting action is as usual and never wanting to be farmers so they rot as who wants to buy such a farm going rapidly downhill as the lady ages. Even in good shape! Such work is rough to do 7 days a week as required no doubt, plus can't hire people to do the labour cheaply as of old.

A very lovely poignant investigation. I loved the dining room because you could imagine that the family stepped out briefly...if you overlook some of the growth and decay. I hope the lady didn’t spend her last days all alone there! That would be truly sad. The Portugal series is fantastic and I can’t wait for more! Thanks for sharing this place with us. It’s definitely a hidden gem!!

Jess, TS 5:14 you asked, "what is that?, when Sam opened that little container. It's to make tatting or lace for clothing. My mom tried teaching me some 50yrs ago and I never could pick up the know how. She used a tatting shuttle, that wood circular deal was called a tatting block which could also be used with heavier threads. Very complicated and theres only a few homemade devices I know of that were used back in the day. I cant even say I've seen tatting for at least 20yrs, until when I'd found some at a yard sale in an old sewing case. That brought back some great memories though. The doilys like what's on the dining table TS 6:47, which that design is called, "lady's corset," as you can see the corset design on the top side. And then another TS 19:25 on the dresser. That has silk kite shapes surrounded with daisies. Tatting sometimes was attached to doilies as well. But anything with tatting attached, had to be hand washed as they were very delicate. But any doily that's crocheted, mom taught me how to use just a photo to copy the pattern so money was never spent on mail-order patterns. Same with making afghans. An after you've made enough of all, you never forget how many stitches an what type of stitch goes where to make another and another. Loved this video! Theres always something that reminds me of my childhood, even here with the smallest of objects tucked away and forgotten in a tiny little container ❤ Thank you again xx
