Wonderful report. Let's have a big hand for Valgur, Poppy, Polly, and especially Art, who did it all backwards while holding a camera.

The two of us tried to climb Esja two years ago. It was very muddy and dangerous, so we turned back and had coffee and cake at the 'stofa'. One day, perhaps, one day ....

Baked beans & cheese on bread? Some things are just wrong! I take it Iceland has no food police? Y'all were good sports about the weather and made it an enjoyable trip nonetheless. The weather sucked, but thanks for sharing a great hike!

Just on the rise to Steinn L👀K at Poppy go! she's like a mountain goat. 🐐 😘 Beautiful view from up there, it probably would've been a great place for a lookout in the early yrs?

It's a real shame that Americans won't be allowed in when this was said: "Icelandic justice minister Áslaug Arna Sigurbjörnsdóttir has told RÚV Iceland will open to non-Schengen arrivals no later than 1st July, regardless of whether other countries in the zone do the same." Now it seems she is going to do exactly what EU does. So much money are flights, hotel, rental car, tours, making arrangements because of what she said. Now it's no more. Many people have limited time for a holiday and can't keep rescheduling. Don't trust Iceland government anymore and especially don't trust Icelandair.

Tom, I'm on my 4th re-schedule for a trip this year and can't disagree with you regarding Icelandair as they were clearly selling tickets from airports in the US that they had no intention of flying from. Regarding the Icelandic government, however, the blame lies clearly with the US handling of the pandemic. I've followed everything that Grapevine and others have said over the last 3 months and I think Iceland and their response team have done a great job. I believe they were all sincere when they said July 1 no matter what, but our situation in the US over the past several weeks continues to decline. I can only hold out hope that August 1 may be the magic date, but our country has to do a lot better first before those borders will be open to us any time soon.

July 1st was the plan. Unfortunately, it was based on old data. Now the situation in the US is quite different and they can't risk to have new cases after all the good work they have done. However, there is no definitive plan so...

We’re in the middle of an unprecedented pandemic dude. Have some perspective. Also, if you’re looking for a government to blame, blame the U.S. for completely botching our handling of it, not Iceland.
