This is possibly one of the saddest of the abandon camera stories, because the image from this camera is amazing when lit correctly.

So cool to see this camera being remembered! I wish so badly that someone would make a CCD cinema camera again. Their images are so beautiful!

I forgot about this camera until you mentioned it was a digital 16mm sensor. As soon as you said it, I knew what killed it. The OG BMPCC with its cheaper 16mm CMOS sensor. It produced similar results in 2013 for $995 around the same time the Ikonscop declared bankruptcy.

I really hope that something similar to this camera will be released again. With the rise of s16 becoming popular again; I feel like this or a D16 mii would have a better chance nowadays

Arri has introduced a s16 mode that crops its sensor down to the s16 size on the 35, I’ve been really wanting to play with it

Good to know! I definitely want to check it out. Really cool how you used the camera btw. Did you enjoy getting to film with it? It's pretty finicky for me getting files off of the camera without them breaking
@florianBerutti3 ай бұрын
@@FrameVoyager If you have problems on your files, it means your card has an issue, not the card reader. But yes the Iko cards are the real problem in the Iko eco system. I just finished another movie in super16 mode with the same director and I decided to shoot it on RED Gemini in 2K... and in the end I had much more pleasure shooting on the IKO... There is no art without limits ;)

That's good to know! See it's weird though. When I transfer files normally from folder to folder, they break randomly, but if I pull it into resolve and then export it I don't have the glitched files. Too bad there wasn't a way to convert the thing to work with an SSD 😅

So pumped you reuploaded it! Also LOVE the look o the footage from this camera. I have a Digital Bolex and really want one of these too. I think they stand out so much from all the modern digital cinema cameras everyone is using. They also have such a rich texture to the footage, almost feels organic.

Cameras like this are just exciting. The unknown territory of digital cameras in the 2000's produced some really unique solutions. We seem to have a lot more convergence of design these days and less creativity around the building of the camera experience.

great video man, the camera look is gorgeous and it really does the 16mm thing. I tought you would mention its usage on the movie "Enter the void" by Gaspar Noe, Cuz Benoit Debie use is it for the POV shots if im correct. But again, great video!!

Not the first 16mm digital cinema camera. That goes to a couple of S16 imaging sensors that were hidden in the mags of ARRi 16SR cameras around the mid to late 2000s. The first was actually promoted by the "Mitchell Camera Company" (they bought the company name) it was a full year before variation from P+S technik and another model distributed by Gecko Cam.

This is a cool camera that has 3 main problems that makes it a risky choice for filmmaking. First, the calibration always fails at some point, Making the quadrants visible in low light situations, no matter how carefully you do the process. Second problem is the propietary cards and reader, and the third one those limited 11-13 stops of dynamic range. Nice unique camera though, mostly for collectors. If a new version of it was released, with standard cards, 4K resolution, no calibration and at least 14-15 stops of dynamic range, it’d be a stunning camera.

Hey, sorry to post here but wasn’t sure how to contact you. In the mid-80s, Alan Gordon used to advertise a high-speed 35mm motion picture camera called the “Image 300,” which was advertised in American Cinematographer and Millimeter magazines. I know it was used on STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME and on a movie called DESERT BLOOM, both released in 1986, I think. Since you’re the guru of obscure cameras, I figured if anyone knows about it, it’s you.

The guy used the metabones speedbooster for the OG BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera, and then manufactured in a warehouse a way to make it for the Ikonoskop. Not sure if he adapted the Nikon mount or the Canon version.
