Say what you want but that was some significant progress. I still think you could toss all that wood into a pile and have the Fire Department do a controlled burn right out back. Open that garage door and start a big pile.

One thing to keep in mind as a potential source of monetization: the framing lumber in the rooms you're demo-ing. There's a very good chance that there's some nice, tight-grained old Douglas Fir, and it looks like you have some boards of 8 or more feet in length. A number of people seek out that kind of stuff - nail holes and all - because you really can't find tight grain wood like that now, and the aged wood has a very different look and feel to it, even after you plane it. So, I don't recommend just cutting it up willy nilly, but instead try to preserve as much of the long boards as you can, but even the shorter stuff, too. Sell it in bundles based on lengths (eg under 4', 4-6', 6-8', 8'+). Heck, if I were close by, I'd happily trade labor for lumber! 😄
@brickandsole9 ай бұрын

You should hire kids from the town looking for a summer job for landscaping and trash removal. Only issue is liability. This would help get the word around to other kids that this is an operational site and the ones that worked there can influence the other kids to respect it. Plus, perhaps one of the kids has some dam work gloves you can borrow!
@brickandsole9 ай бұрын
Yeah, they could do stuff outside. But they would step on a nail inside for sure. and no company would insure this place so it would be on me. I am hoping to phase in more help moving forward.

I can feel your exhaustion through the screen! As someone who has worked on much smaller clean-out projects alone, I know it's much harder when you're a one man band on the project. Have you ever considered having a work day for subscribers once a month during decent weather just to get a bunch of stuff done at one time? What is your city's policy about hauling away some of the debris on a regular basis? Can you purchase a commercial sized receptacle that they will haul away weekly? In my own experience I've found that getting the debris out and gone helps tremendously psychologically. These are just some random thoughts. I would be willing to drive in for a work day, but I'm only one person. Maybe as an incentive for volunteers you could offer them to help themselves to the stuff you're looking to get rid of. Even some of the plumbing and electrical stuff might be a good incentive to get volunteers -- might be more worth your while than going to auction with it to get the help as a trade off.
@brickandsole9 ай бұрын
Yeah, I know that the first/next piece of equipment will be a dump trailer. at the moment my nephew is helping me clear out. and I am going room by room on the first floor. It is a catch 22. Need to clean it before people can come in for liability purposes, but need the help at the same time.

great work!. demo does take it out of a person. Fire up that MKE sawzall and let it do more of the work. I used to do a lot of demo work and that was one of the first tools I would reach for. Just a suggestion but tons and tons of particulates are showing up in the camera images. You may want to consider wearing a particle mask just so you are not inhaling all that crap.
@brickandsole9 ай бұрын
I do have one now. It's a few videos until it shows up though. That sawmill shakes like the devil the last 5% of the studs. am I doing something wrong?
@mcgjohn229 ай бұрын
@@brickandsole If the studs are loose, then the saw will shake the heck out of you. To reduce the saw shake, keep the blade speed up high (many MKEs have a variable speed trigger, with an additional thumb wheel speed adjustment in the base of the handle) and keep the metal foot of the saw pressed tightly against the work surface being cut or wall panel you are cutting. You can also try cutting sections out closer to the floor, towards the support structure at the top and closer to side walls where the panels or wall being removed is anchored. And make sure the blade is at right angles to the panel being cut. If the saw is not held at 90 deg, then the material being cut starts to bind up on the blade and will shake the heck out of the user. For wood demo and cutting also use a courser tooth blade. There are so many blade options for the sawzall including tree and brush pruning blades since some landscapers found the battery version works well for landscape use.
