I spent a few months there in 1997 as an inmate and actually did some of the tuckpointing outside the West Annex House. A little known fact Mr.T had an older brother who was one of the senior officers there and was pretty close to retirement at that time. Lot of energy in that building.

Great video. T.y 4 taking the time to go n in showing the prison n posting it on utube I was shocked that didn't look like a prison other then the bars u would think it was a hotel. They had band equipment. But my question is what where they doing with those target practice. Is it for gun practice or Arrowhead. What are they used 4 does any one know. But the crazy thing is the fireplace I know that it was built in the 1800 did the add heat 4 the inmates I know the inmates wasn't using it. LOL

My Dad was in the Minor League of the White Soxs. He told me that he was on a team that came to this prison and played against the prison team. I do not know if they played baseball here more than once. This took place in the early 40s before WW2. I lived in Lockport with my family as a kid. We used to drive by this prison often to go shopping in downtown Joliet and to see my cousins. I was born in Joliet at the old Silver Cross Hospital.

Only times we were on lockdown is when fights happened and usually it wasn't for the long, week or two. The summer's in the west house were brutal. The heat and the noise will make a man go insane. I seen a guy thrown off the side of 8 gallery on to 6 gallery. Not sure what he did but I didn't care but the weird thing I remember was when he landed on 6 gallery, a couple of CO and a older captain named Douglas started beating on the guy. Never seen the inmate again.

I was in this prison in the early 90's everything you showed here I can tell you about but the real prison was up on the top floors where you didn't go. You did talk about the humidity in that place imagine being a prisoner there in the heat of summer there was no air conditioning, and there was no relief.. I seen seven men get shot right in front of my eyes in the chow hall in that prison. And so so many more things man what I can tell you. About Joliet CC.. Me and 2 other guys escaped from there in 1991 we went over the wall by the laundry room with ropes made of bed sheets and blankets and coats we threw over the razor wire.. you actually showed in your video the laundry room and the window we went out. I probably even knew in person a few of the ghost that's roam them halls now.. In the middle of the complex there used to be an outdoor sale which is where they kept certain inmates back when the prison was built in the 1800s they kept it on display for all of us to see..

@@williamflores3726 you must be talking about the East yard and the building next to it was the "honor dorm" inmates that were deemed not a threat due to their lack of disciplinary record. Plus they usually had the good jobs like the mattress factory and M&M shop which was across from the basketball courts from the west yard, caticorner from the laundry and the library was above the laundry.
