I remember Eckerd back when I was like 4-9 yrs. Then CVS took it's place across from McD, and I still can point out where Eckerd used to be in the mall, where the check out was and how much space it took up. That was back in 1995 when I was 5, I am now 31 and I can still remember.

I live in the Sarasota-Bradenton area of Florida. Growing up, we had more Eckerds than Walgreens. Walgreens started building more stores in my area in the mid to late '90s. All our Eckerd stores were shut down or taken over by CVS in '03-'04. We also had two Rite Aid stores in Bradenton that were taken over by CVS in '04 or later.

I worked at Eckerd in the photo lab for 6-7 years. The JCPENNEY buyout was a disaster. That was a big problem and started to bring things down. All said, I loved working there for the most part. One of my favorite jobs.

We had three Eckerd stores within 5 miles from one another. Now, Walgreens sits at the locations where Eckerd use to be.

I grew up in Manahawkin, NJ for 11 years across from Long Beach Island. There used to be an Eckerd on that island near the main entrance of it. It was in operation when I was there from 2002-2005 when it was then taken over by CVS. Never went in tho. I just remember seeing one. I was 4 at the time and I remember Eckerd quite well.

Most of the Eckerds in my area (I live in Florida) got taken over by CVS. Rite Aid hasn’t had a store in Florida since 1997

In our area, we had Eckerds as well as Kerr Drugs. Eckerds in the Charlotte DMA were acquired by Rite Aid (except for Wadesboro, it was acquired earlier by CVS) and Kerr Drug was acquired by Walgreens, the glorified Sinclair/Nexstar of pharmacies. Food Lion recently/rarely added pharmacies in some stores, notably store 10 in Salisbury in 2002, and store 2650, which was acquired from Winn-Dixie in 2005.

We had Eckerd up here in the Albany NY area, and never had any issues, until they became rite aid. After rite aid took over, the customer service got worse and we had a number of problems, including when I was looking for my first job and applied there. Eckerd was far better. A majority of the converted stores are now Walgreens with only a few that are still rite aid

Rite Aid is a company I can see going under within the decade. They don't have as many stores and they just don't feel like they've changed with the times
