STORY
While driving through a quaint village on the outskirts of Paris, we stumbled upon an intriguing, abandoned manor that seemed to have been forgotten for ages. Drawn by curiosity, we took a closer look and uncovered its unique and captivating history.
This manor was once the cherished home of Jean-Paul, a man originally from New York. During World War II, he was sent to France, where he met and fell in love with Petra, who would become his wife. After the war, Jean-Paul decided to stay in France, turning his passion for postage stamps into a thriving business.
Thanks to his success, Jean-Paul and Petra were able to buy this magnificent 1876 manor near Paris. Every room in the house was beautifully decorated, filled with cherished memories, treasured artifacts, and elegant furniture. Here, they raised a loving family and lived their entire lives together.
As time passed, however, the manor's story began to fade. In 2017, the house fell silent when Jean-Paul, its last resident, passed away. Though he had children, none returned to claim or care for the house, leaving it abandoned-a poignant reminder of the vibrant lives once lived within its walls.
Many questions remain about this beautiful home: Where did Jean-Paul's children go after his passing? Why are all their precious memories still left behind?
Join us as we delve into the remnants of this love story, discovering echoes of the past in every corner of this forgotten estate.

I think the only thing keeping the children of Petra and Jean-Paul are the French property taxes. Outrageous. But then it's done here in America. The county, city, state, government, all want tax money. It's just appalling, and so very sad.

What a lovely place and nice exploring. Those dolls in the beds are not from the kids, they are decorations. The noodles in the pot is a set up, even the ‘last drink’ . Other explorers setting up the scene to take pictures.

Why is this home abandoned? If the children didn't want it or couldn't maybe pay taxes on it, why not sell? I truly know many would feel blessed to have this home! Such as myself, amazing

There was a painting on the table of two birds in a avacodo tree. My mother had in our home when I was a young boy. I have not seen this painting in 50 years. Now that was really cool. I think it was my grand mothers. I wish I knew what ever happend to it. Its gone for ever. Thanks for that Leslie. That made my day. The house is really nice. I hope they were happy. Good job

What a beautiful home and story. That Happy Bird in the attic is from the 60s or 70s. We had one, and I loved it. You soak the head in water for a few minutes, and then set it to "drink" from a glass of water. Push the head down until the beak touches the water and let it go to begin swinging back and forth. It doesn't stop until you stop it...very cute and quirky. You must be careful of setups by other urban explorers, though. Alcohol evaporates very quickly, so that "last drink" was not from the owners or both glasses would surely be empty. I'm guessing that the spaghetti in the pot was another setup, as well as the perfectly set dining table.

A very lovely place. I am amazed at how many American products are in that house. The picture on the wall with American flag and the other one beside it might be considered American Folk Art. Also, the dolls with the crochet dresses are meant to be for beds. They were not meant to be played with. That was a very common practice in the US many years ago.

Lesley I Found You Contradicted Yourself Quite A Few Times, & Assumed Too Many Things That Don't Fit Together. A Trifle Thing Here Grand Marnier Is A Liquor....Grand Marn..i...er & There's No Way It Would Have Been Sitting There In A Glass All That Time, It Eventually Would Have Some What Evaporated Or To A Thickness Sludge. Neighbours & Friends Would Have Been In The House Looking After Petra Before She Went To A Hospital Or Nursing Home & Cleaning Up Best They Could, Even Before Their Children Arrived-When ? Before Or After Her Death ? Keeping Petra's Children Notified. I Have To Say The Children Of Both Parents Should Have Actioned Off All The Antiques, China Dinnerware & Glasses, Even The Property With The Home For What It Was Worth & Split The Difference Between Themselves. Plus Explorers Like Yourself Would Have Been There Before You & Placed Certain Items In Certain Places, Don't Assume Petra & Her Husband Left It How You See It To Be.

Leslie I think Jean and Petra were WW1 era judging by the photos and steamer trunks in the attic. They might have been very early 20's in age then. I think they had one child, who would have been 20 in the 1930's. The colour photos may have been a grand child who inherited the place and would now be in their 80's. My feeling is that the home was kept, but that it was maybe a summer residence in the 50's or 60's, then used less and less until forgotten or the last decendent passed away, probably in Paris. And yes I preserve food in jars!!!!

I would like to see a french furniture store. Because I want to see if you still can buy these old french furnitures. In really every french home you saw these dark dining set ups and in the living room always these old fashioned couches. I never saw any modern furnitures in a french house. Okay, normally in these houses lived old people. Therefore I would like to see a french furniture store, to look if the young people in France still have these furnitures. My parents are born while WW 2 but they have modern furnitures, exept in their living room, there the furnitures are nearly 70 years old. But in Germany you can´t buy furniture today which you can keep 70 years. Only perhaps in special stores you can buy furnitures complete made out of wood, but this can only afford rich people. And when I think about my parents belongings, I can´t keep a lot of them, because my appartment is full of my own things. I could not take any furniture and they are not my style. I only would take a few old pictures, but not all, because there are a lot and I have no space for so much pictures. When parents die, children normally have their own houses for a long time, so they can´t keep the parents furnitures. But I can´t understand why children do not sell these houses. They can pay the taxes and have the rest for themselves. Especially a house near Paris can be very expensive.
