As of 3/1/2020, the place has been completely fenced off. You cannot even step foot in the parking lot. There has been graffiti spray painted all over the building. Will keep you posted for updates.

I liked these old McDonald buildings. Come up to Butler, pa on Route 8 South when just leaving Butler, next to the Super 8 and across from the Days Inn is an abandoned dine in style Pizza Hut. Its been abandon since last spring due to a fire that started in the back and went through the roof. most of the building was untouched, the building is not blocked off but they recently took down the Pizza Hut sign out front. I would love to see you explore that one.

Weird I only finally found this video, now. Sad to see the old mansard roof locations like this, bite the dust. Those old Ray Kroc plaques, were common at older McDonald's locations. I'm pretty sure the newer McDonald's locations, don't have those plaques anymore. Like probably after the 1980s or early 1990s at the latest, McDonald's stopped putting those inside the buildings of newer McDonald's locations.

for any one wondering who the dude was on the plaque. musta been one of his franchises at one point. "Raymond Albert "Ray" Kroc (October 5, 1902 - January 14, 1984) was an American fast-food tycoon.[4][5] He joined the California company McDonald's in 1954, after the McDonald brothers had franchised 6 locations out from their original 1940 operation in San Bernardino. This set the stage for national expansion with the help of Kroc, eventually leading to a global franchise"

Actually Ray stole mcdonalds from the brothers and he opened the other 3 franchise locations then bought all the lands so alm owners had to pay his new company franchise reality corporation lease payments for land they were on. Later he named the reality company the McDonald's corporation which upset the McDonald's brothers. This is how he told them either do as I want as a partner or since I own your land I'll push you out. They sold their locations to Rat for 2.7 million and a handshake of 3% roalty of sales. RAay never upheld that agreement as he purposely left that out of the signed agreement for 2.7 million stating the franchise owners wouldn't go for the any royalty.

It looks a lot like the one we had here in the 80's. Ours is a franchise owned by a local business man. Just about 10 years back corporate sent some suited wienies in and pretty much told the guy his building was too old, and if he wanted to keep the franchise, he had to have a new one constructed. They literally built the new one right next to the old one. The old one remained in service until they could open the new one. Once the new one opened, the old one was torn down and the area was made into the parking lot for the new one.

8:24 FM (88MHz-108MHz) antenna probably for an SCA decoder that once supplied Muzak to the PA system. I don't think they even make FM antennas like these anymore, and SCA pretty much became obsolete by the late 90s.

They still make FM Antennas for the 3-Meter Band (88MHz-108MHz) but they are very rare and have doubled, even quadrupled, in price over the last 20+ years or so. Supply and Demand.

@@marcboulware6242 Been a while since I looked into them, seems that now Stellar Labs makes a 4-element FM Yagi that Newark sells for $30. And they have 400 of them in stock. That price isn't bad given that Radio Shack used to sell a 4 (might have been 5) element FM Yagi for about the same price, and that was ca 1994. One thing I always wondered about was the FM antenna that many fast food restaurants (definitely Burger King but may have been others) used, which wasn't horizontally polarized, wasn't vertically polarized, but midway between them (45 degree angle). Why the midway polarization, and who made this antenna? I'm not even sure they were FM antennas, but they appeared to be the right size. This wasn't just a regional thing, either--I saw them in Virginia, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Maryland...

@@brianleeper5737 The Stellar Labs Antenna is a 4-Element Yagi Antenna that is as advertised. Try to graduate to a 5-Element 3-Meter Yagi Antenna in this day and expect to pay $200+ on it. Radio Shack's model was the "FM-120", which stood for 120-Miles on its Antenna. Radio Shack also sold its "VU-210" Antenna which was good for 210 Miles on VHF (LO) but failed to deliver on VHF-HI and UHF (In-so-far-as-210-miles-go)

This location probably closed due to its lease being up. There were 4 recently in downtown Pittsburgh and 2 (!) closed for this very reason. The only 2 left are on Wood Street and at the Point. These stores are incredibly difficult to staff and to make a decent profit. In addition, the Strip District is not an incredibly friendly area at night. Drunks, hoodlums, and addicts are not a recipe for keeping a business open. I can almost guarantee that this store will never reopen.

DUE TO THE EXCESS NUMBER OF MCDONALD'S RESTRAUNTS IN THE DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH AREA, THAT PARTICULAR LOCATION WAS MAKING THE LEAST AMOUNT OF INCOME, PLUS THE PROPERTY OWNER FELT "ENTITLED" AND TRIED TO"ADJUST" THE PROPERTY PRICE, WITH THE LEASE AGREEMENT DUE TO BE RENEWED ON 01JAN, OF THAT PARTICULAR YEAR. I USED TO BE EMPLOYED THERE. NO, WE WEREN'T TRANSFERRED TO OTHER STORES, RATHER WERE FIRED.

dude same exact shit happened to a burger king when i lived on the other side of PA. i couldve sworn it was open so i stopped by one day before work and the entire place is gutted like it had been abandoned for years. graffiti everywhere, yanked down signs. i asked people who had lived there longer then me and they had the same reaction. it was really confusing because it had 100% been open just the other day and fine but apparently it had lots of problems like hygiene related so maybe the same thing happened?

Wow, you hardly ever see those - I mean, HARDLY EVER. There are only 2 other times that I personally have seen this happen. The first one was in 2009. I live in Bristol, CT, and at the time we had 3 McD’s in town. One of them was across from ESPN’s HQs, however it wasn’t abandoned for long. The building has closed and reopened several times as several different businesses but none have remained as long as McD’s did there. That McD’s should have never closed in the first place. The second one closed in Lake George, NY, in April of 2016. It was open year round until 2008 when they switched to being open just during the summer similar to some Dairy Queens. It, too, was still a red roof McD’s up until the time that it closed, and as of the last time I went to LG for vacation in June of 2019, the building still sits there abandoned and for sale.

All mcdonalds are franchises as mcdonalds makes money off owing the kand and leasing it to the franchisee and the franchise fees and royalties. Not very many US stores are owned by McDonald's corporation themselves. My are in West Virginia had many operators but now the family for all 6 locations in my county now owns many in 10 other counties and a few in PA and Maryland
