I like your stove! Looks nice and light. The wool in it could also be used for an outdoor fire starter!
@theinvisiblecamperАй бұрын
Thanks Nancy - the stove is very light and compact but is very susceptible to the wind and needs to be shielded, The wool inside it is ceramic wool and does not burn - it acts as a wick to bring the fuel to the surface of the container.
@nancytrekkerАй бұрын
@theinvisiblecamper oh my mistake! It makes me think, though, we can soak some cotton balls or dryer lint in fuel or petroleum.jelly and store them in a small container like this. It would come in handy on those rainy nights when we can't get a fire going and just need a little extra.

super little tour... Happy christmas brother. The spot is ideal for a camp - really lovely . nothing wrong with noodles, spam and a funny christmas hat.. timeless look :) My mrs got me some sprayway trousers a few years ago. They were the best trousers i ever had for outdoors. How do you find the jacket?
@theinvisiblecamperАй бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed the video - it was fun. The sprayway down jacket is really well made and very warm - the cut is quite a slim fit and as I am not so slim it makes it a tad snug on me - but it still works for me😃

I did a video at lenabo last November (my second video on the channel) - I have been avoiding ravenscraig because of the mess and damage done there by "dirty campers" but may do a trip there and do a clean up. Thanks for your comment.

It was a different sort of camp and having a tent inside a building worked well - I have never really worried about camping on my own, I don't believe in ghost and ghouls and all that guff - so the only thing I have to worry about is security guards and the PoPo😂 - thanks again for leaving a comment👍

@theinvisiblecamperАй бұрын
In truth Drew I rarely have a fire - in the places I camp it is usually the one thing most likely to draw attention and cause me problems. When the situation allows I will have a small fire when I know I wont be seen. Thanks for leaving a comment 👍

What struck me was ‘ what an oddball ‘. Who would want to go somewhere desolate like that and set up camp, which may or may not be legal. Not a beautiful place or even an interesting spot. Plus, you had Winter gear on so probably cold anyway. For me it would have to be legal, pleasant surroundings and within easy reach of food/drink and facilities. AND WARM. Well, it takes all kinds …..
@theinvisiblecamperАй бұрын
Hi Sandra - yep I guess I'm an oddball. I find old military sites very interesting and strangely beautiful in their own way - if it makes you feel better I also camp on mountains and beaches too. Please rest assured that none of my camps are illegal - I don't trespass. As for being cold - the camp was in the North of Scotland in December and it was around 10 degrees Celsius - which is positively barmy for the time of year and a lot warmer than I have camped in. It's easy to stay warm and toasty with the right gear. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and I hope you find my future locations more "picturesque"😃

DPM was a good choice for a cold war site

It may be a hospital in a field but its not a field hospital as its a permanent structure on a base.
@theinvisiblecamperАй бұрын
You may be right - I was told it was a field hospital as most of the structures were temporary wood building with only the ablutions and a couple of shed being solid built, and also it was not listed as a permanent hospital on the naval register. Also was not on the airbase but on a separate stand alone site. In truth there is next to nothing written down about the site and most of the info I have found out has been word of mouth from locals and other amateur historians. If you have any additional information about the site it would be great to hear it as it has been a tough place to get info on.
