I have always wondered if that was true, I have yet to see one active or even non active CCTV set up any where you went through, unless it was set up after your shoot there, I would believe more it was a neighbor in the hills over looking the place and dropping a dime when he notices activity at the resort, I would not think the State Police have a direct video feed coming into there command, the state police are very busy I can't see they would have a lot of time to baby sit that place, and I can't see the state of NY allocating funds for OT to patrol that area, state POLICE don't patrol neighbor hoods, they are up and down the state roads giving out moving violations, there is no revenue to be gained by going out to the resort, other then Trespassing fines, so unless someone drops a dime on URBX that's the only way, there is nothing there to steel really the only thing they would be concerned about is arson.

I was born in Ellenville in 1924. I left Ellenville in October, 1949, after the "sizon". We had a small hotel (summer resort), which what all the hotels were, including the big ones. I graduated from Ellenville High School in 1941. I served in World War II for three years. I also ran our hotel after the war. My brother did before the war. My father was a dairy and chicken farmer ten months of the year. Our resort season was from July 4th to Labor Day. Our hotel was located about 1/2 mile from the Fallsview and Nevele. Joe and Lillian Slutsky who originally owned the Nevele were friends of my parents. The came to my Bar Mitzvah. I have many fond memories of the summers in Ellenville and the terrble winters. In those days, there were no commercial winter sports. Incidentally, we were in the Shawangunk range of the Catskill mountains. What you show here is after my time. I lived through the early years. They were great years.

I had the same experience as you with growing up just outside of Nashville, TN with the Opryland Resort. We went every summer when I was a kid, then all us teenagers had "Good Time Passes" that we could use everyday from 5:00 PM to close. We went 5 times a week minimum. Then in high school, bunches of us worked there. ,Right after graduation in 189, they didn't open one summer, said they were remodeling. Then Gannett Corp. bought it, dismantled the rides, closed it down. No explanations. Worse mistake that company ever made, horrible for Nashville, defeating for us that grew up there. I kid you not, it's a damn Mall now! Like Nashville don't have about 8 other malls. I watched a documentary about it a few months ago, and cried through most of it ( I'm 53 now). It was like your childhood home was torn down and there was a gas station there now.

This was an amazing explore of this abandoned vacation complex. The penthouse, although grand in size, surprised me when I saw the typical home owner type of kitchen(nothing special) especially because most of the other areas of the resort seemed to be fairly modern and extravagant . I've never seen so much wallpaper as was in some of the employee's quarters rooms; not only the walls but also the ceilings, closet doors, everywhere lol. I was for some reason intrigued by the pair of shoes at the top of the basement stairs in the same building. And the microwave in the bathroom. Imaging myself saying something like, "I'll be right back, i have to go get my dinner from the bathroom," made me laugh. All the ski and skating items left behind was a shame, they could have sold it or even donated it to schools that have cross country and ski clubs. I grew up way out on eastern long island in new York and we had a cross country and ski club during the winter months.

Your taste in explores fascinates me. Thanks! Growing up in Saratoga, NY meant; we heard thousands of adds for this place. No wonder! It was breathtaking! How, all of those Catskill resorts have been ABANDONED just, does not compute...I'd go there, now!!

Very sad. More than likely, they allowed it to go into foreclosure. The banks aren't set up to sell any product anymore, like they used to be when they did their own repos. Now the foreclosures are sold as is. The new owner could sell the stuff, and probably will sell it in lots. They may even allow salvage companies to come in and take what they can for an agreed amount. It's a real shame that so much was lost to the elements, and more importantly, the history of the place.

Hi, Thanks for uploading this video very interesting time capsules you explore. I enjoy watching all the videos on your channel .The Fortuna Press in the kitchen area is used to press out a couple dozen dinner rolls. After pressing you put the rolls on a baking sheet,and throw the sheet pan in one of those big wall ovens.

Thanks so much for this video. I vacationed at the Nevele with my parents for one week of almost almost every summer between 1974 and 1986. It was such an awesome place, and some of my best childhood and teenage memories took place here. Most years, we stayed in the wing called the Tower, the distinctive round building that you take us into. One distinctive feature on the second through eighth floors was that the hallways formed a complete circle. (As kids, we could race each other by running in opposite directions and meeting at the same point!) On the ninth floor, however, the hallway was only partial because of the executive suite which you take us into, and which occupies about half the entire floor. It was a childhood fantasy of mine to get in there and look around, and thanks to you guys, I feel as I've gotten the chance! Nicely done!

In the 1970's and 80's it was a Great Year Round Resort drawing People from Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. It catered to everyone, where most of the other resorts were more based on a certain ethnic clientele of " The Borscht Belt Circuit ".

Thanks for sharing this video. Loved every second. That main building where the marble wall. Behind it is stairs to go down to cousin brucie room. In there is also an arcade room and minigolf and shuffle board and pool tables room. God was went there from the 80s to closing. I went there every year each from 1988 on till it was done. I know the place inside and out except maid chambers and employee aloud rooms. but i could tell ya from main lobby to where everything took place. sad but i cant thank you enough for the video. When your friend there with the deathwish hat said something about explosives and going to knock it down i cried. Still am. Again thank you so much for this walkthrough.

It should. It was set in the Catskills (though not filmed there) and was based on a person the screenwriter met at, I believe, Grossinger's another big resort that was in the area.
@elioselectric4685 жыл бұрын
😁🤜
@Stubahn4 жыл бұрын
Yes Kelly, and yes Paul Carr. The movie's treatment was inspired by the writer's experiences and observations working a summer "in the mountains" at a hotel in the Catskills. Grossinger's was the dynamic for the fictional "Kellerman's"; a family owned Catskill resort in decline. Actually "The Concord" on Lake Kiamesha, more closely met all the visual criteria found in the movie. In reality, principle scenes of "Kellerman's" were shot in Virginia, at a place called the Mountain Lake Lodge. The key "Dirty" dancing and sexy water scenes were shot on Lake Lure (N. Carolina) at an abandoned summer camp. Damn shame no Catskill locations could be used. Even in the mid-80's, most Sullivan/Ulster locations were too derelict.

I went up over the 2018 and 2019 holidays (12/20 and 12/22). Last year there was no fencing up but this year there was new fencing up so I didn't walk through as I did last year. I did get a short drone video clip from the resort next door. I went into nearby Ellenville and was told by locals that there is so much water damage from bursted pipes that reclamation of the buildings is believed impossible. If you would like to include my drone video in your video or post a link to it here once I post it to my KZbin channel, please let me know.

Don't know where to start commenting first except to say thank you so much for getting this documented before it was gone such a shame it lasted over a 100 years and and is abandoned now you can tell they put money back into it and wanted to keep it open and you can tell from signs of prices that is was very reasonable but i belive it is just hard now a days to do these types of things ..... the money just isnt there and I truley believe life was better back then I just imagine all the lives lived here all the fun had. I would like to think that everyone who worked here loved there jobs if for nothing else just for the view of the mountains ....... So awesome . i would also like to say I believe that your videos are getting better ( dident think that was possible ) but this was incredible a home run out of the park . Thank you for taking the tine it took to walk the entire place and you captured everything so well couldent have been better cant wait till the next one keep up the great work

34:42 It is a dough press for making bread. You figure how big of a loaf a bread (8oz., 1 pound, etc.) times the number of sections. Make that much dough, put the dough in the press and the dough is pressed into each section and voila, your loaves of bread to bake. Fortuna is a very high end brand. That would be worth every penny to restore.
