I can confirm. Top secret during the cold war and lasted like that till clinton closed down the base in the 90s. Used to do scout trips out there when it was active and wasnt. We always got the "cross this area and you go to jail forever" speach. It wasnt as sensitive in the 90s as it was during the cold war. To be clear, the small chimney was the place to torch classified and top secret documents should the base be overrun. That one thing you didnt know about was a paint spray booth. In 2006 and 2007 they still had a shit ton of paint and equipment still there. Even a humvee. Hell, one of them bunkers used to have a ton of small arms ammo too.

Born and raised westside Jax and we have explored all over out there over the years. There's actual underground bunkers in the woods behind the equestrian center that's there now. The hatch is concreted shut now though. It is super creepy out there.

I found one of them but haven't checked it yet to see if it was concreted shut. It's under 5" of sediment and there was a nice 5' rattler right there when I went so I gave him the space he deserved an will try again wanna go

Used to go out there a lot, since I moved back, guess I need to go back out there. The bunkers used to have the doors, while the big building had all it's doors and a bunch of equipment left inside back when we originally spent time out there in 2008. I know a bunch about the area, the history goes back to just before WW2. You can find tons of fired bullets still buried out there from the old ww2 gunnery portion.

My friends and I actually hung out there in the big warehouse a lot and even shot some scenes for a horror film! Great times, great memories! In the bunker dirt mounds that stored weapons and such... Inside one of those bunker mounds is a ton of graffiti done by some of my friends! We used to run all over Cecil Field on the weekends! That giant helicopter pad was our cars and trucks playground...lol In fact, there were no road blocks when we went, so we were able to drive our cars right into the giant warehouse and party! haha

Lived in Dirty Duval my whole life and used to party and have late night street racing out there! We would park all the cars in the bunkers and do burnouts and stuff... Lots of drifting on the helo pad. One time the cops came and blocked off the only entrance and gave everyone tickets that tried to leave. Me and a few other cars decided to bookit and drive into the woods down those old logging roads... Spent HOURS LOST IN THE WOODS!!! Almost ran out of gas and almost got stuck on the poor overgrown muddy roads, didn't help I was in a mini truck 1995 Nissan Hardbody that was bagged out and slammed on the ground. Fun times! We finally made it out the woods all the way over to Normandy blvd!!! Had to cross someones nice backyard property to get to the road, those people looked at us like we were NUTZ. A small convoy of tuner cars just appearing from out their woods first thing on a Sunday morning!

Great video, brings back alot of memories, I worked ther as aa Gunners Mate Technician/Weapons Technician between 1985 - 1987, a couple of my friends and I were out smoking, standing on the loading dock of that building while we watched the space shuttle Callenger launch and explode in January of 1986. The building was called the BDU (Bomb Dummy Unit) building and the structure inside with the big stack going to the overhead is the paint booth where a goverment cilvilian (WG rating) would paint the B52, B43, and some of the B61 air drop bomb dummies after we had retrieved them from the Pine Castle Missle Range in central Florida and repaired them. Thanks for the memory

Really enjoyed this video. Me and my hubby checked out Yellow Water Naval Air Gunnery School, behind the Equestrian Center this past weekend, found some still standing buildings, and the training pool. Drove across the street to find the missile facility, but were not positive how to access it. We ended up at a disc golf, and paintball park. I know JSO utilizes the property for training, and supposedly, there are surveillance cameras everywhere, surrounding the bunkers. Was wondering, if you noticed any. Dying to check this place out, but really don't want the $500 trespassing ticket. How did you access it? I assume you parked by the Equestrian Center?

Yes, they did. They used to shut down the roads in the area when they were transporting them to the ships at Mayport. I spent time at all 3 bases in Jax when I was in. If you tried to drive in to Yellow Water, there was a stop sign in the middle of the woods with nothing around it. If you didn't stop at that stop sign, you would have a whole crew of Marines, locked and loaded, surrounding you before you knew it. I've talked to some of the Marines that were stationed there.

Awesome video, Taylor!!! Me and my family were stationed at/lived on Cecil Field back in the 1980's so this location/your video really got my attention. I'm a huge fan of abandoned places and the fact that it's connected (not in a physical way) to Cecil Field makes it more intriguing because me and my family had lived there. I only found out about the place a few months ago and here I am, sitting at my computer like an idiot trying to "find" the location on Cecil Field when the location is further North. LOL. The location is only 9 miles from my house and I would love to visit it but I am kind of worried about getting arrested so reading articles and watching KZbin videos about the place will have to do until the location is open to the public.
