Wonderful memories of that place. It was so grand back in the day. You got a real shock when you walked out into the car park. Daytime viewings etc.

26.00 The ODEON was always a cinema, never a theatre. The big dimmer board controlled - amongst other things - all the coloured lights in front of the original screen for colour effects. I have worked one of these in the ODEON Eltham Well Hall, now gone.

Interesting video, although this place was never a theatre, it was build as a picture house and was an Odeon all of it's operational life.

The bars you climbed up; theres more if those on the other side closer to the entrance which are easier to climb up because there isnt a hole you have to slide under so of you go back go up those bars

The comment made when talking about the lighting controls being from when the cinema was a theatre is inaccurate as the Odeon Portsmouth was never a theatre. It was built by Odeon and used purely as a cinema. People often make the assumption that old cinemas were once theatres and while some were many weren’t. I guess it’s because people are so used to cinemas having small screens and very bland decor they find it hard to imagine a large single screen cinema seating thousands with very ornate and theatrical styling so just assume at some point they must have been a theatre.

I max is digital so how is put on reels Bell-end, dont half talk some shit. No offence but if you dont know dont make it up. Thats why I stopped watching his vid's. I like the honesty you young guy's have, keep it up.
@richardcreese4816 ай бұрын
Some Imax theatres project 70mm films too.....and that cinema had a 70mm projector installed in 1960 which would have used those massive horizontal reels that were left there
