A couple of points in your narration. A complete list of all aircraft and their serial numbers stored at Davis Monthon is available from the Davis Monthon web site and is updated monthly. Two, The B-52 wings are removed as per the Salt II agreement to limit nuclear bomber forces between the USA and Russia. They are left like that so so Russian satellites can see them.

I was always in awe of the boneyard as a kid. I lived in Benson and would go to Tucson regularly. I also enjoyed the movie, "The Wraith", which included scenes from the boneyard.

I worked at the boneyard for 33 yrs on pretty much laid hands on every a/c out there. It was a great career and an honor to be able to work on and get parts out of these a/c to support live a/c.

How many Tomcats are left airframes intact?

They are NOT abandoned, they are maintained. It's so sad seeing them there like that.

The aerial footage doesn’t even do justice to how massive these are! My grandmother lived in that neighborhood across from the boneyard and back in the day you could walk around it and touch the planes.

Would liked to have toured the boneyard in 2023 when I was in the area but the tours were stopped during the pandemic. There are Navy aircraft stored there also. I spent most of my 20 years in the NAVY flying on the P3 ORION of which there are many there. The aircraft is no longer flown by much of the active NAVY VP forces but continues to fly in specialized squadrons.

The climate were these planes are stored are in a climate that is the best location for these warriors.

The B52G had wings and body of plane due to treaty signed by US and Russia who have broken the treaty. This facility started after ww2.

The chopped up B52’s are dead. They are left like that so the Russians can see them as there satellites pass over . This is due to the treaty mentioned above. After a set amount of time the hulks are scraped , and this is after all the useable parts have been removed. But the B-52 fleet as a whole may reach close to a total of 100 years in service if the present plans for the fleet remain unchanged. Only two B-52’s have been resurrected from the bone yard. There are about 72 B-52H aircraft in service today. There were about 744 of the bombers manufactured from 1952 thru 1962. Looks like we got our money worth on the”BUFF”. What an amazing airplane.

How was drone footage allowed to be filmed. We just did a 3-part series on this facility and were told directly NO drone footage.
@situation_zeroАй бұрын
The drone footage is public domain and available from the DoD media web portal.
