Construction of this Soviet Brutalist stadium started in 1967 and was only finished around 10 years later due to various complications. It was used by the Leninist Komsomol (the Young Communist League), and during its Soviet heyday it won awards for its design: including the Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, given to Laguna Vere in 1982. The complex hosted events on both regional and international levels, and it was the only open-air pool in Tbilisi open to all citizens regardless of their social status.
After being in private ownership for around 15 years it closed in 2014 and was damaged by a severe flood in 2015. Business are using some of the space here for storage, probably unofficially. Stray dogs and graffiti can present a challenge to photography attempts.
