Last year I released my first KZbin video, looking at Sega World Sydney. Following many new events to happen this year, I have chosen to follow up the original video with some new happenings concerning Sega World's history and a potential revival of Sega World that may happen in today's world.

Good work mate. Not sure you saw my message on the other video but my father was a carpenter who worked on the sega world construction. He helped build the ghost train I think. He’d be happy to do an interview about the construction and opening day that we went to for your channel.

I always begged my mum to take me there and she never did. Your videos have finally given me an inside look of the place. It was one of those places you would always see when you went to Sydney and to me as a kid it always looked so magical. Sydney became really boring for a while. Sega world closed, Wonderland closed, then luna Park closed for a while. There are a few other places that existed before my time like waterworks in Mt druitt and a few other theme and water parks. Would be cool if you did a video on them.

Very well done. I didn't have the chance to go to Sega World, but everyone that did spoke highly about it. Sydney needs something like this again, and hopefully one day it will happen.

I went to Tokyo Joypolis recently and I thought it was a lot of fun! High tech VR and fun rides. Definitely think it would be cool if something like that came to Australia but then again sonic is much more popular in japan

You make me feel old as a 38 year old Brit who remembers Sega World Trocedero, however your passion and knowledge on the subject of Sega's glory day's is sufficient. Here's to a return to Sydney harbour and the rest of the world.

I loved watching your original video on Sega World (for the first time just today) and it left me wanting to point out how in the last couple of years things have taken a huge up turn, I was going to point out TimeZone in Coolangatta as an example but then this video autoplayed next. :)

fantastic video, keep up the good work! its great to see a young guy who appriciates what Sydney once had, the way Sydney has gone is very upsetting with the loss of the monorail, wonderland, sega world etc. Oh hey, look into the old African Lion Safari at Warragamba, that place was another awesome piece of History!

They need multi-players mode to be successful that is what made them popular back in the day they ended up dying out for focusing on single player prize modes that needed too many prize tokens.

Great video on sega world and wonderland. A high standard which will improve in coming year. Your subscriber base is bound to grow as well. Other suggestions for content- water works (mt druitt and manly), Major Kingdom (Gold Coast), Leyland bros world (burnt down last year), el caballo blanco (west syd in 80s), Waratah park (skippy) in terry hills. Good luck!

I'm still sad I never got to know or experience Sega World when I was a kid. But man I would love it if came back this day and age. Yeah you make a lot of sense. I think if Sega World came back it would work now. I think it can be a place similar to Epcot's Innoventions (Back when Sega sponsored it), Disney Quest, and Dave & Busters. I feel it can be a place to show new amazing arcade machines & rides but also embrace its old school arcade roots. Keep up the great work, I like your content.

I recall visiting Sega world in 1999. It was actually really cool. I do recall thinking however at the time that it was very quiet. We didn't have to queue for any rides at all. We got off a ride and went straight back on it. The tech for the time was quite impressive.

The resurgence of arcades has not only been in Australia, but in other countries such as the United Kingdom and America with bowling alleys and amusement centers. They still get regular visitors and I believe there's a chance that a new indoor amusement park could happen at some point in the next few years. I've seen there was a Sega Republic, which was similar to SegaWorld, but I believe that's been closed down now. But seeing the growth in these arcades shows you that there is still a demand for something similar to SegaWorld.

Not wrong, timezone was kinda dogdy on George st a friend of my co-workers got stabbed there, or chased outside and then stabbed as it was reported on the news, I think the late 90's early 00's was less dodgy but late 80's to mid 90's could draw some dodgy characters, best period though was late 80's to mid 90's, as you know console rapidly got very good and the need for big bulky arcade hardware was redundant, although the points you raise for its resurgence is great to see it have a comeback, was a social meetup for many of my pals when i was a kid, so i have many good memories of being at the arcades with a few dodgy ones sprinkled in ;)

Interesting hypothesis that there could be something similar to Sega World in the future. I really don’t think so though. The fact is people in general don’t go out as much these days so building a Sega World 2.0 is not viable. If for some reason it was build I doubt Sega would have anything to do with it. Sega has struggled to keep with modern video gaming unlike its competitors Sony and Nintendo. You make the point that arcade centres have opened up in Japan and China. Do you know the population of these countries? There’s a billion people in China. The population of Australia is 25 million. We just don’t have the population to make theme parks successful and amusement companies know this after failed attempts at trying.

SEGA simply do not have the money to create such a place at the moment. What they need to do is work on creating and growing quality franchises like Sonic, Yakuza, Daytona USA and then they need to work with an existing theme park to implement a Sega World area heavily featuring a Sonic themed rollercoaster and free or cheap to play arcade games

Have any of you guys actually been to Sega World Sydney? It was s**t! Perhaps no one recalls, but it was essentially an IMAX cineplex masquerading as an indoor theme park. The development failed, because firstly, they only screened boring IMAX films, the theaters were converted, not purpose-built IMAX. And because Holden and Ford dominated the Australian economy, EVERY freaking arcade game was a driving one. And the greedy machines only accepted $2 x2 coins to give it a go. I remember, because it was our first time holidaying in Sydney, and my parents regretted their decision taking us to Australia.
