10:54 Hi thats me 😊😊 "obstacle course" was mostly used between april/may of 2007 to january of 2008, (starting with waffleboy's very influential and now deleted obstacle course from april of 2007) and the word "obby" was coined because of the max character limit for game titles. from about early-2008 onward, obby became the main term for obstacle course games. obby wasnt coined as a way to make it easier to type, instead just because they typed too much. i actually made a whole video about how obbies evolved a few months ago, with their history going as far back as october 2006.

Nothing's more sad and nostalgic when you visit an old favorite game that no one plays anymore so you just hang out in the game and remember the good times you had with friends that most likely don't play Roblox anymore. That's the most lonely feeling on Roblox. What’s a game on Roblox you love that no one plays anymore? For me that goes to Survival Beginnings, the original Reason2Die and Slender Camp.

I don't think Roblox is exactly dying due to the amount of new players rolling in but it definitely is decreasing a bit in player size. Most of the old games don't have people in it because people only play new specific games.
@justristan2 жыл бұрын
@@jiwoo593 yea you’re right but people keep quitting roblox because of unfortunate events or stupid moderation but i definitely agree with you
@Disciple_JK2 жыл бұрын
@@jiwoo593 Roblox's biggest problems right now are corporatization, censorship, and overall decline in quality and game standards. Copyright has removed lots of great games from the site. Small games don't get the appreciation they used to, so there aren't as many new titles getting big. Unlike the old days when it seemed like every good game had players, every game in modern Roblox is either very popular or very dead, to which there are very few exceptions. Communication on the site and its overall use as sort of a "hangout" place has only plummeted over time, from the addition of a console port without a chat system, to the highly strict chat filters that began showing up a few years ago and have only gotten worse. And in terms of old games, there are a lot of classics that can't be played now because they're broken, privated, taken down, or removed due to copyright issues. It's truly a shame, and as someone who started playing the game nearly 10 years ago, it deeply saddens me the direction Roblox is going in.

A Priates Life was one of my favorite games, buying the biggest ship and getting the whole team to raid the other side was epic. Being captain of the whole team until the enemy can take down the ship. I remember once controlling the big ship and when I was almost to the enemy side they too got the big ship they tried to head to our base, I gave chase and seeing us from behind the turned to fight and we battled out at sea, ship to ship cannons firing at one another and I boarded their ship to kill their cannoneers from behind. I have so many good memories of this game that I was unable to recreated as time went on. Perhaps it has to do with the games breaking and developer quitting roblox. The lack of players really kills the game too. There was always new games popping up but I was never really able to give up the old ones... When Apocalypse Rising started falling apart I knew my time with roblox was truly over

I didn't know a simple old Roblox game could create a hardcore liminal space for the old minds - I almost remember playing these kind of games back in 2009 :o

One of my favorite classic Roblox games was GameStop Tycoon. You got a store in a plaza, and you'd slowly accumulate cash and build up a Gamestop. It was a really dumb concept, and it wasn't all that good, but it was super nostalgic. When I was 10 I brought my "girlfriend" over and showed her that game. I say "girlfriend" in quotations because I was literally 10. I had no concept or romance... Anyways... That plus Zombie Desert Tycoon...

2009-2011 player here. I remember the LIFE one. Always on the front page and busy af actually. So many people would be Roleplaying and stuff. I also remember some of the really well done FPS games that were just starting to emerge. And the Tycoons.

I remember this one game around 2009 where a timed tornado strike would attack a little arena where all the players spawned and the idea is you build some kind of barrier or contraption to get you through the round. I learned from a couple players how to spawn these 2x1 bricks against your body and you could fly around and avoid the storm. Remember all the DC clothes and emo themes that they had for your character 😂

I remember trying to make a roblox level back in the early days, it was literally just the default map with the house destroyed because I had no idea what I was doing and accidentally submitted the map. Somehow 40 random people stumbled their way into that map.

alot of these old obby's are now defunct due to a majority of them being built around using one particular exploit to complete a certain level. and since about 90% of all known exploits in Roblox are patched, that means that the only obby games worth playing are ones that still get updated to fix or remove any given level when the exploit needed for it is patched.

Early on in Roblox; about 2008, I befriended a guy who had a really popular game called Tsunami Survival on a Mansion and he gave me admin powers which went to my 7 year old brain so whenever he was not online, I abused those powers so badly by freezing and jailing randomers.
