@@SailingAlma Sadly we swallowed the anchor 9 years ago. While in Mexico, and planning to head to Central/South America for hurricane season, my folks came down for a visit. My mom had early onset Alzheimer's and it rapidly became clear that we'd be heading to the Pacific Northwest instead. So we're here, helping to deal with aging parents, first Mom until she passed away, and now Dad. But we have never regretted the financial sacrifices we made to refit the boat and take off. Our 10 years aboard was easily the most fulfilling and rewarding 10 years of our lives.

Well done. I spent a couple of years prepping a boat for cruising myself in my 40s, and I did so while working too. Then I sailed away, and haven't worked a day since - for someone else anyway. There's a sense of acomplishment and self reliance that comes from doing what you are doing that is priceless. I'm in my 50s now, and I still live aboard a boat and sail it regularly. My only regret is not doing it sooner - Bravo you two!

Thanks! The boat was a 20 foot (!) Pacific Seacraft Flicka without an engine. I cruised her for 6 months from LA to Baja and the Sea of Cortez. With my girlfriend. Who'd never sailed anything. Here's a tip: If you want to find out if you are truly compatible with a prospective partner, go on an extended cruise aboard a small boat in a remote area where you have to rely on each other for survival. Either you'll develop really good conflict resolution skills, or you'll be sailing solo in short order. If you're able to work as a team, it bodes very well for a long term relationship. We are still close friends 10 years later, and I'm telling you - that trip was the key.

Wow!! I took n a 30ft 1967 Colombia. Itchy fiberglass. Found it in Coconut Grove Miami half sunk against a sea wall. At high tide I could swim through the hole in the side. The owner was happy to give it away. I screwed plywood onto it and ran a pump while my friend "Go John" towed it out with his sail boat which then got stuck...at high tide. He towed my boat with his dinghy to a little island where I beached it and re floated later when he had re floated his. Up the Miami river to a dry dock...and on to learning as I went...just like this awesome couple. Beautiful smelly itchy times...well done!

What a beautiful boat! I live in the midwest and am a car guy at heart, but I can appreciate the countless hours that go into a project like this. Great work!

Thanks Jason! That is awesome. What kind of cars you like? I (Yulian) have a thing for classic cars as well. Thanks for watching 👍😆

@@SailingAlma I am a fan of offbeat 1960's cars. My first car was a 1966 Buick Lesabre 4 door. It was a boat, pun intended, but I could pack up to 6 of my friends in it and we had so much fun. Currently I own a 1994 F150 that is as much a project truck as it is a work truck. I am a carpenter by trade and use it for work. The thing is, when you have the chance to buy a short cab, long bed 101K, 4WD truck for $1200...I couldn't pass it up.

Awesome stuff!!! The amount of work that goes into a project like that is insane. I redid an old 22' Mako and it took forever, I couldn't even imagine something in the 40' class.

For two beginners you guys knocked it out of the park. My expertise is restoring cars ,not classics but insurance write offs , and I've looked at transfering my skills to restoring a boat. Good Luck.
