Tskaltubo sity, оnce a prominent Soviet health resort, regularly hosting express trains from Moscow, it faced a drastic economic downturn in the early '90s, rendering dozens of luxurious sanatoriums obsolete. Following the war in Abkhazia, these establishments became shelters for refugees, with hundreds still residing in multi-story buildings with utterly post-apocalyptic interiors.
The eerie impression left by Tskaltubo is akin to stepping into the setting of a catastrophic film. Though officially established as a city in 1953, Tskaltubo, like any Georgian settlement, boasts a rich and profound history. It saw its modern development between the World Wars, with the construction of the initial sanatoriums and the emergence of renowned springs. Stalin himself sought treatment in Tskaltubo, giving it a significant boost.
