La Grande Hermine - The Rusting Shipwreck
The ship was originally built in Quebec in 1914 and was used as a ferry and subsequently as a cargo ship. It later became a floating restaurant. The ship got its new home in 1997 in Jordan Harbour just off the western shore of Lake Ontario (where it currently sits). Unfortunately the ship was victim to an arson fire in 2003 which is why the ship looks so run down.
There were plans to transform the ship into a gambling venue in Niagara Falls, but the owner passed away before anything could be approved.
And so the vessel still remains in the Jordon Harbour! But regardless of its location and rustic looks, it has become a distinctive landmark and favourite roadside attraction to many.
